My "save-the-date" for the 2013 Christmas Parade elicited this nice message from Joyce Wolf: "So you're doing the parade again -- wonderful! I will try to join you this year. I've put a small donation in the mail to you -- hope it helps. By the way, I recently happened to look at a copy of the Montrose History book by Robert Newcombe and was extremely delighted to find a photo of the Montrose Peace Vigil. You and your signs made it into the history books! Best regards and thanks again to you and your group for the work you do."

Jim unveils the front panel of the Peace Train in 2010. There's no better way to introduce our next parade entry than Roberta's save-the-date e-mail: The 2013 Montrose Christmas Parade is Saturday evening, December 7, and the Montrose/Glendale Peace Vigil will march for the fourth consecutive year with our beautiful Peace Train.
You are all cordially invited to gather for food and fellowship at my house one block from the parade route beginning at 3:30 that afternoon, as usual. We are to occupy our spot in the parade order on Honolulu Avenue no later than 5:00 p.m. and the parade steps off at 6:00 p.m.
You can watch last year's fun on the video at the Montrose Christmas Parade Association's website. We looked amazing despite the steady drizzle! The Peace Train chugs in on Part 3 at 19:28:www.montrosechristmasparade.com/2012Event.htmTo learn more, visit us on the corner any Friday or register on this message board and we'll e-mail you back.

Our daughter sang in the chorus of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, at Disney Hall on Monday night. This is 2 dead soldiers, one from each side, talking, from one of the Wilfred Owen poems sung in the Requiem. I of course thought of the corner. We laughed, knowing that better men would come and greater wars: when each proud fighter brags He wars on death, for lives; not men, for flags. And I just wanted to see this again!!!

With the Peace Trail on wheels for the first time, marching will be fun for everybody this year. The Montrose/Glendale Peace Vigils will march our custom built and hand painted Peace Train in the Montrose Christmas Parade this Saturday, December 7. This will also mark our fourth year as a Bronze Supporter of the parade. Here's the link to the official 2013 Montrose Christmas Parade website: www.montrosechristmasparade.com/We invite all friends and strangers to march with us! We gather at Roberta's house in Montrose, located only a block from the parade staging area, starting at 3:30 p.m. to enjoy her soups and snacks while assembling and decorating the Peace Train. For details, you can reach Roberta at (818) xxx-xxxx, or drop by the corner during next Friday's vigil between 5:30 and 7 p.m.

Below, I've embedded the You Tube video segment from last year's Montrose Christmas Parade that Roberta mentioned in her e-mail blast. Run your cursor on the bottom to get that circle, then slide it almost all the way to the right -- at 19:28, you'll see the Peace Train passing twice, as captured by two cameras.
Now imagine the Peace Train on wheels -- this Saturday!

The Peace Train performed beautifully for its first Montrose Christmas Parade on wheels, thanks to engineer Mike, flawless in both meanings of engineering. The Montrose/Glendale Peace Vigils had 28 marchers, the best attendance in our four years, and 31 total participants. It seemed to me that the turnout on the sidewalks was better than last year, when it drizzled constantly, but not as great as the first two years.
I heard on the news that the gas company has asked its customers to conserve immediately because of the unusual demand on the natural gas delivery system throughout the West. I came prepared for the cold. For the first time, I wore a real conductor's hat, gloves, thermal underwear and heavy woolen socks. I also didn't wear dress shoes, so I was always warm and comfortable from head to toe.
Anni has photos that she'll post, and I'll write more about the parade and the people -- please join in.

I thought it was grand. I got the feeling that people were expecting us and remembered us from past years. I think we chalk up more goodwill for the concept of peace every year. Thanks to Roberta for hearty soup and to this year's train crew. It's sending out good vibrations.
Pastor Steve and Janice loved being a part of it.

I'll bet one of us has a better camera (or at least a more generous flash) that shows off our gorgeous Xmas effort. Here's a couple of my shots...you can e-mail pics to me...then I'll share them here... This one of us just getting started, from Catherine via Roberta: Here's the famous 1/2 a group shot(just before we started marching) And one of the Fabulous Peace Train:
