I considered giving up this thread after I had to quit noting and locating the increasing number of IP addresses that visit this message board, but it's still fun for me to notch benchmarks every month or so of the user totals displayed in the Info Center on the bottom of the homepage. Right now, 90 guests have clicked on this URL in the past 24 hours, with 24 of those being Googlebots. Since I last posted here seven weeks ago, the highest number of guests was 190 and the lowest was 48.

Since my last report six weeks ago, the highest number of guests shown on the homepage of the Montrose Peace Vigil message board was 81 and the lowest was 40 -- overall, not many fewer than the previous benchmark. Our URL had no spike of potential international spammers visiting all at once, as we did in early January when the guest count peaked at 190, a near record for a 24 hour period.
Right now, the Info Center notes 59 guests. I can tell you that 25 of those IP addresses are Googlebots.

The message board has had 60 guests in the past 24 hours, not counting the members who are always logged in. I identified all of the IP addresses for the first time in many months. Not much has changed -- more than half of the visitors were from worldwide search engines, including 26 Googlebots, with another 20 from would be spammers and ad placement outfits. That leaves eight probable human guests from unknown cities in Australia and the U.K.; Tokyo, Japan; Voronezh, Russia; Beaverton, Oregon; Chicago, Illinois; Rancho Cucamonga and Glendale, California, who I think was Montrose Peace Vigil stalwart Jim. The Chicago address is listed to the Community Renewal Society -- www.communityrenewalsociety.org/ -- a progressive, faith based group founded in 1882. Since March 1, the highest number of guests shown in the Info Center was 72 and the lowest was 52.

In the past four weeks, the number of guests shown on our message board's Info Center at the bottom of the home page has ranged from 73 to 43. As I post, we've had 47 visitors, only 17 of those Googlebots.
I had forgotten how long it takes to run the IP addresses through the locator and then the spam directory. Yet I'm always tickled when I do. Besides the bots and the frustrated spammers, in the past day we've received hits from Stockholm, Sweden; Duisburg, Germany; Saint-denis, France; the University of North Carolina at Ashville; San Diego and repeat hits from a local Verizon address not belonging to Edmond or me.

In the past four weeks, the number of guests shown on our message board's Info Center at the bottom of the home page has ranged from 73 to 43. As I post, we've had 47 visitors, only 17 of those Googlebots. Since then, the guest totals for the past 24 hours have ranged from 126 to 47 unique IP addresses. So my previous post marked a recent low in visitation. At midnight today, the Info Center showed 96 guests, with a hefty 48 of those being Googlebots. We have a new search engine visiting in addition to the half dozen worldwide that reliably send bots to survey the content on the Montrose Peace Vigil message board -- Blekko, born in 2010 and based in California, whose stated mission is to deliver quality, spam free links. I ran all of the IP addresses yesterday through a locator service and my favorite registry of bad Internet behavior. After eliminating the ad placement spiders that customize the ads for you and the comment spammers from places like China and the Ukraine that just keep banging their heads against ProBoards' posting protections, we've had probable human readers spanning the globe: Beirut, Lebanon; a university in Limburg, Belgium; Mogilev, Belarius; Castellon, Spain; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Newcastle, U.K.; Boulder, Colo.; Salt Lake City and someone with a local Verizon IP address who's not Edmond, Anni or me.

I ran into and had a nice chat with Joyce Wolf at the farmer's market in Montrose this morning. She regrets that she hasn't even been by to honk lately. I totally let her off the hook, but while I had her in a receptive state, reminded her to hold the 1st Saturday of December for the Peace Train. It's never too early.

In the past few days, two spammers have become members of the Montrose Peace Vigil message board. The latest is shanehotness1, who registered Monday to advertise a website featuring mugshots but wasn't proficient enough to put a link in her post. You may have seen it before Anni deleted it. But I have a grudging admiration for motumoyo. This is his profile -- I removed the embedded URL's to the website: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=viewprofile&user=motumoyoMotumoyo filled in the areas of his profile that none of us ever have: an avatar with a caption along with the message in the signature area on the bottom. That and the registration process requires some effort. But he had experience. A cursory search of his name on Google brings up other profiles, many on ProBoards, with the same kind of stilted syntax employed to sell women's shoes. We've only banned them for now. Perhaps we will delete their accounts when the novelty wears off. This month's Traffic Report mark: Since May 27, the 24-hour guest total has ranged from 125 to 71 different IP addresses. Right now, the Info Center shows 82 guests, with 30 of those being Googlebots.

Right now, the Info Center shows 82 guests, with 30 of those being Googlebots. Traffic has picked up since my last report. The daily visitor count has ranged from 123 to 66 unique IP addresses -- mostly above 90 since July 3. Now the Info Center has 113 guests, including 66 Googlebots. And another spammer joined the Montrose Peace Vigil message board, petersonc, advertising I forget what because I didn't see his post. Jeanne did, before Anni deleted it. Either somebody has written a program that will navigate ProBoards' registration process or actual human beings are taking the few minutes to fill out the little form, click on the link e-mailed to them, log in and post. ProBoards allows administrators to restrict sign ups, but I want a wide open board. It's easier to just ban the spammers and delete their posts.

In the past four weeks, the highest visitor count I saw was 188 and the lowest was 89. Currently, the Info Center shows 101 guests in the past 24 hours, not including members. Of those, 44 are Googlebots. The newest member on display right now, Morgan, joined earlier this month when he posted kudos to us in the Bradley Manning thread. He probably found the Montrose Peace Vigil message board through Google or another of the search engines constantly surveying the posts here. I Googled the full name in his e-mail address (which only administrators can see), and learned that Morgan is a 20 year old in the Los Angeles area who's been contributing to message boards for three years. Thank you for being here!

Since my last Traffic Report, the guest count over 24 hours has ranged from 140 to 76. Without whipping out the calculator, that feels like averages of the high and low visitor numbers over the past four months. As I post, the Info Center on the homepage reads 102 guests, including 51 Googlebots.
For the hell of it, I identified all of Sunday's IP addresses through my favorite locator service, something I haven't done for a long time, then ran them on Project Honey Pot, which tracks bad Internet behavior such as spamming on message boards. After subtracting the bots surveying our posts sent by search engines like Google and Bing, as well as the would be content spammers predominantly from China, I came up with six IP addresses from probable, actual human beings. Only one of them, with SBC as the Internet service provider, was from Los Angeles. The board also got hits from Karkur, Israel; Terragona, Spain; North London, Connecticut; Festus, Missouri; and Everett, Washington.
