In a few more weeks, the sun will set earlier, at a different angle, and the wide patch of grass and trees in the middle of the corner will again be hospitable. Meanwhile, most of the regulars are standing in the shady patch to the north. Roberta brought hardcopies of the letter we've been discussing all week in this thread: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk2&action=display&thread=233With their visit at the end of Friday's Montrose Peace Vigil to deliver letters to Rep. Schiff signed by the participants at the simultaneous Glendale Peace Vigil, Sharon and Bill gave us our best turnout this month: - July 4 - 11 (special vigil)
- July 6 – 7
- July 13 - 11
- July 20 - 13
This week's PDF of the seven deaths in Afghanistan announced by the Department of Defense, which we posted on our own replacement flagpole, includes the Army's report of suicides in June: Attachments:

Our old friend Joyce, a long time activist, was a Montrose Peace Vigil regular until her job kept her later on Fridays. Since then, she has marched with us in Hollywood and joined our Peace Train in the Montrose Christmas Parade. We usually see her driving by the vigil and honking on her way home around 6:59 p.m., but this week Joyce came early to talk, hand Roberta another letter to deliver to Representative Adam Schiff's office next Monday -- and give us a double digit attendance figure to end the month: - July 4 - 11 (special vigil)
- July 6 – 7
- July 13 - 11
- July 20 - 13
- July 27 - 10
Average weekly turnout was 10 participants, two fewer than July 2011 but only off one from last month. This week, we posted the longest compilation of Department of Defense military death announcements since we started hoisting our own flagpole on the corner last September -- five pages, 12 press releases, 13 men and one woman gone. The PDF is attached in the link below: Attachments:
