Anni and I were vigil hoppers this Friday. We started at 5 p.m. at Brand and Broadway with the Glendale Peace Vigil, which began nine and a half years ago, three years before the Montrose Peace Vigil. Despite the large empty retail stores, Glendale retains its wonderful vibe with many friendly and supportive passersby on the sidewalk and on wheels in the streets. Not to mention, it's shady on the southwest corner. Anni will post her photo of founding members Nancy, Sharon, Bill and Henry in this thread later. We arrived in Montrose around 6 p.m. For the third week in a row, no counter protesters. The winds last November destroyed the shade on our northwest corner, but the weather was good and we were glad to be there. Many of the folks walking and driving by seemed happy to see us too. Attendance so far this month: - Aug. 3 - 14
- Aug. 10 - 7
- Aug. 17 - 9
- Aug. 24 - 9
The shopping park association's flag was again flying over the Vietnam War Memorial. While we were there, this four-page compilation of the 15 American troop deaths announced by the Department of Defense in the past week was taped to the flagpole: Attachments:

Thanks to Brian and Anni we had 5 people last night. Nancy is the only founder left. Bill and I have only been doing the vigil for about 6 years - Henry was part of the group when we started. It will the the Glendale Peace Vigil's 10th anniversary on Sept. 21 - we're thinking of doing some sort of celebration to try to recruit more members. Bill has photos too but not uploaded out of the camera yet!

What a great visit we had with our fellow "vigil-anties" at last Friday's Glendale Peace Vigil. It's a fine thing to touch base with other Peace-niks. One Love:

Thanks for the photo - Bill hasn't downloaded his yet. And it illustrates I can't count - Brian and Anni made it 6 for the GPV on August 24!

How I wish I could be 2 places at once, tonight and again tomorrow afternoon for the Eagle Rock vigil, which had to cancel because several people can't make it.
Thinking of you in the Outer Banks!

Roberta would be proud of the turnout that the Montrose Peace Vigil had this Friday despite her, Mike and Jim being out of town for Labor Day weekend. Anni arrived a few minutes after 5:30 with Roberta's sign bag, joining Jeanne and Nancy, who always bring their own signs and extras. Bruce, Linda, Louisa and Chris came later. Zari was back! And so was the shade on all three patches of grass on the corner, which we occupied for the first time in many weeks. This month's attendance: - Aug. 3 - 14
- Aug. 10 - 7
- Aug. 17 - 9
- Aug. 24 - 9
- Aug. 31 - 9
The average weekly count rounds to 10 participants, compared to 13 in August 2011 and 10 last month. Five counter protesters returned with their flag display after a three week absence. The shopping park's American flag flew over us for the third week in a row. We posted our weekly compilation of the Department of Defense's troop death announcements -- this PDF encapsulates four lives lost, two of them women: Attachments:
