Greetings, Friends and Neighbors,
Gather, Inspire, Act has been coordinating the Friday night films at CVUMC for two years and the Mr. Rogers documentary is one of the best attended. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about Fred Rogers’ determination to live out his calling to communicate love and acceptance to a young television audience. In a way, we have a similar goal. We want to provide a setting for people to meet and enjoy good films and share concerns about the challenges we face in our hopes for peace and justice. Whatever the subject is for the evening, we always leave feeling bolstered up by each other’s caring and encouragement. Being present with each other provides some soul restoration amidst the chaos and separation in our world. Therefore, you’ll want to know about our upcoming documentaries.
Friday night, February 8th, we’ll be showing John Fugelsang’s “Dream On.” Fugelsang is a comedian and pundit who brings sharp wit and caring wisdom to his observations of contemporary life. In “Dream On” he takes a road trip that traces Alexis de Toqueville’s 19th Century tour of the United States. Fugelsang meets with a variety of people, explores their circumstances, and asks them about where they are with their versions of the American Dream. It’s a way to connect with some fellow Americans that we would not meet otherwise and to hear their stories. I hope you come and meet them with us, and stay for conversation afterwards.

Looking ahead to March, we will be showing a film on the NRA and it’s part in feeding the gun violence in our nation. “Making a Killing: Guns, Greed, and the NRA” is scheduled for Friday March 8th. Rev. Sandie Richards, who is one of CalPac's Peace with Justice co-coordinators, with an emphasis on ending gun violence, will be present to provide more information and inspiration. Mark your calendars for this upcoming opportunity.
Peace,
Jeanne L
