Kris Kristofferson will perform with the Strangers, Merle Haggard's band for five decades, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, August 24, at the Starlight Bowl in the hills of Burbank. This is a link to the promoter's webpage for the concert: wheremusicmeetsthesoul.com/events/kris-kristofferson-the-strangers-burbank/Here's a broadcast clip from 1989 of Kris Kristofferson and his band playing "Under the Gun," one of the greatest -- if little known -- anti-war songs of the last 35 years, if not ever: No more time, no more chances No more wars will be won In the end only the losers Hold the land under the gun

I always patronize the merchandise table when I attend concerts because it's the only way to put my money directly into the artists' hands. At the Kris Kristofferson show at the Starlight Bowl on Saturday, the only CD by him on sale was one of the few I don't already own, 1995's "A Moment of Forever."
Produced by the stellar Don Was, the album includes musicians such as Jim Keltner, Benmont Tench and Waddy Wachtel, along with Billy Swan and Stephen Bruton, who first played with Kris in the early 1970's. It's fabulous.
The biggest surprise for me was a remake of "Under the Gun," much snappier than the original version recorded for the "Songwriter" movie soundtrack in 1984. Believe me, the CD sounds better than this official You Tube clip.

We had such a great time Saturday night! I'm so glad you and Anni got to see Kris with us and meet Lynn & Dave. It's so funny I've been trying to schedule some get together for them to meet another circle of our friends and we discover Dave and Anni worked together years ago and you guys live blocks apart. LA is such a small town sometimes. As I noted, Kris seemed more frail then he did when we saw him in January. Another great political song from the album you got, The back story, www.johntrudell.com/biography/

Scott Joss is a fabulous musician too. We saw him when we finally got to see Merle Haggard live but sorry now we didn't see more of him over the years.

Because of Sharon and Bill, we had a wonderful time at the Starlight Bowl in Burbank before and after the concert by Kris Kristofferson and three of the members of the legendary Strangers band last Saturday. More thanks to Sharon for posting those great videos here. We loved the performance too. Kris' voice was often gruff, but he remembered almost every word of more than two dozen songs. Anni and I were also impressed that he stood onstage for an hour and a half -- and didn't take one sip of any liquid. That concert and the previous evenings in Napa and Mountain View were apparently just a warm up for two massive tours: 20 dates in Australia and New Zealand in September and October, followed by 16 shows in the midwestern and mountain states of the U.S. in November. On another music note, John just announced that his last year of teaching (the year after this one) he’s gonna wear a different Grateful Dead shirt every day of the week to class. He has 5, wash, repeat. You heard it here first! BTW I was blocked from the message board in Russia, Mongolia, and China, and needed to catch up here so deposited in the music place I saw:) I wasn't familiar with AKA Graffiti Man, it is prophetic so still contemporary,
