Anni was Friday's vigil champion, arriving by 5:30 and standing alone for 20 minutes because the usual early birds were on their way back from Congressman Schiff's holiday event. Hail to Anni, plus my sympathies -- it is not fun to stand there alone -- you are our heroine indeed. Let's coordinate better in future (meaning for starters, thinking ahead on my part!) so as to always have at least a pair of early birds. We had a lovely after-vigil gathering, thanks everyone for all the goodies. In a harmonic convergence and triumph of leftover management, the next night for dinner I sauteed a big mess of greens from my Tierra Miguel box-o-veggies www.tierramiguelfarm.org/csa-about.htm , added Jeanne's marinated mushrooms, and ate with Anni's vegetarian lasagne. Delicious!

Roberta and I bannered on the corner this morning, 9-10. It was cool and windy at times. I was on the sunny side and got today's dose of vitamin D. A nice woman named Jax walked by and offered to buy us a hot drink. I immediately accepted and that lemon chamomile tea from the coffee Bean really hit the spot. So thanks to Jax from Jenny Craig.

Friday marks the first Christmas on the corner for the Montrose Peace Vigil and I can't wait. What kind of traffic -- vehicular and pedestrian -- can we expect with every store and restaurant closed on the most observed holiday of the year? Will the shopping park's man leave the American flag flying? And will the counter-protesters be absent again?
For me, prolonging a streak stretching more than 200 weeks isn't the only or even the best reason to show up. Christmas is supposed to be about peace on earth, and I want to represent.
Four individuals have committed so far to stop by during the usual time, 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the corner of Honolulu and Ocean View in Montrose, California, U.S.A. Yule be welcome to hang out with us!

Merry Christmas to all peaceniks. Thanks for standing on the corner on Christmas. It makes so much sense. It's right. I'll be thinking of you all tomorrow.

I'm going with the shortest version: It's About the Prince of PEACE. In red on the green background of one of Bruce's excellent environment-themed signs. And speaking of being green by reusing resources, here's Jeanne on the subject, locally. More Montrose beautification at the corner tonight, see you 5:30 to 7:00.! (I hope at least 1 other drop-by happens at 5:30 so the signs and I will not be alone!) www.glendalenewspress.com/articles/2009/12/25/opinion/letters/gnp-mailbag122509.txt

With Sharon and Bill from the Glendale Peace Vigil, we had a good turnout at the corner on Christmas and an even better time. Surprisingly and thankfully, the Coffee Bean was open, and Anni brought humus dip and rice-and-bean chips from Trader Joe. Street traffic was better than I anticipated, and with the counter-protesters taking another Friday off, all of the honks and gestures were for us: - Dec. 4 - 14
- Dec. 11 - 16
- Dec. 18 - 17
- Dec. 25 - 9
No kids this week. I counted Eddie, who's been a frequent visitor with his locally famous dog William, as a participant this time because he was able to turn on the little white Christmas lights on our usual patch of grass, which were mysteriously out while every other tree trunk and reindeer blazed up and down Honolulu Avenue. The American flag was gone. However, the festive dog tag identifying one of the reindeer as Gandhi has not been removed.

Thanks Roberta for joining us at the rare Saturday night Glendale Peace Vigil last night, our last of this first decade of the 21st century. We had visitors from the Eagle Rock Vigil too and Red was there with his tunes. Busy Saturday night at Broadway & Brand! A lone female GPD officer pulled over a couple of young guys for a ticket and another GPD car came to back her up so we had flashing lights for a while. Can't guarantee as much excitement, but all are welcome to join us on January 2, 2010 - from 5 to 7 pm. Dinner and/or drinks available at BJ's afterward, too - with the possibility of some good conversation. www.bjsbrewhouse.com/
