I’m a Glendale Environmental Coalition active member and yesterday they asked me to sign on in favor of their Glendale Solar Solution. They encouraged me to list other local community groups and organizations I am part of, to communicate wide support for this initiative, and greeted with enthusiasm my offering to spread the word to the Montrose Peace Vigil. So feel free to name MPV and all your local memberships! gec.eco/glendale-solar-solution/

I support Move To Amend, the grass-roots organization pushing the most thorough and progressive solution to the horror that is the Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court, allowing huge corporate donations to candidates and PACs. Their legislation is HJR 48, the We The People amendment. After a lot of effort by a lot of us — lobby visits, calls, letters, emails — 93 House members have co-sponsored it, 30 out of the 53 California reps, including recently Adam Schiff, who had dithered and hung back for quite some time. The current Move To Amend project is getting U.S. Senator Padilla (CA) to introduce a Senate companion bill, maybe while Dems still control the Senate? I believe this link will lead you to a mechanism for calling Padilla’s office, and a script. Or you can just dial direct to (202) 224-3553. Especially if you are a Glendale resident and even if not, I hope you will all sign on in support of the Glendale Solar Solution at the link below. Keep scrolling past the sign-up form and the policies comprising the Glendale Solar Solution to see our beautiful Montrose Peace Vigil graphic in the list of organizations supporting local green energy! For Glendale residents especially. The struggle to stop Glendale from adding California’s last new fossil fuel burning infrastructure right here in Glendale Ca continues. Here’s info and how Glendale residents can help. Greeting to me, but the email was addressed to Montrose Peace Vigil. I have signed Montrose Peace Vigil on as supporting solar in the past and will do again for the Dec. 9th letter too. If a good scribe wants to draft a letter from MVP, go for it I say!
Hello Roberta! One last round on Grayson below ---
The Grayson fossil fuel project is coming back to City Council for a FINAL DECISION on December 13. We need Glendale residents and organizations to demand AGAIN that Glendale reject this project and invest in clean energy instead.
If Glendale goes with a gas-burning plant now, it will probably be the last one ever built in California. It's going to cost more than $260 million, which means we WON'T HAVE that money for clean energy projects!
Meanwhile,
- the federal government just passed a huge climate bill that is going to help municipal utilities invest in clean energy and Glendale is looking into that
- the state government is planning for an energy future with no more fossil fuel plants, so Grayson could be the last one ever built in California
- Glendale is finally exploring a lot of clean energy possibilities, thanks to the Glendale Environmental Coalition and the Sierra Club, which have been pushing for this for literally years.
We want the Glendale City Council to reject plans that will continue polluting the air and threatening the climate, and invest in local, sustainable, clean energy projects that will keep our lights on and protect Glendale from energy price shocks.
We need large rooftop solar incentives, solar panels and battery storage on lots of city properties (including the landfill), generous demand response credits for customers that reduce peak time energy use, and a major commercial customers feed-in-tariff program. There are great proposals that are just coming forward now. This is the time to say NO NEW GAS, we want Glendale to pivot, plan, and invest in a CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE.
Individuals (Glendale residents only please) can sign up HERE to either attend or call in to the city council meeting on December 13! Please email elisek@sunroomdesk.com if the Montrose Peace Vigil will sign on to a group letter by December 9 to city council members, or wishes to draft its own letter!
Thanks,
Elise Kalfayan
