I'm happy to cut and paste this e-mail from the Valley Interfaith Council about their annual commemoration on Jan. 18 that I got as a result of attending their Interfaith Peacemaking Forum last February with other Montrose Peace Vigil members: Five outstanding youth from area schools have been invited by VIC’s MLK Day planning committee to be the keynote speakers for VIC’s 22nd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Interfaith Commemoration Program. The youth will share their understanding of how Dr. King’s dream speaks to their generation. The students are from Charter High School of Arts, Multi Media and Performing; Laurel Hall School; Multicultural Learning Center; Portola Middle School; and George Washington Carver Elementary School. Also featured is Delores Burgess, international gospel recording artist, writer, producer and performer of the popular one woman musical stage play, Fighting For The Title. Ms. Burgess performed at last year’s MLK program and is returning by popular demand! The program will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church located at 6020 Radford in North Hollywood (corner of Radford and Oxnard, 1 block east of the 170 freeway). Please join us at 4 pm for a short commemorative march on Oxnard Street honoring Dr. King. The march will be followed by the program at 5 pm and a reception at 6:00 pm. For more information visit our website at www.vic-la.org or call 818/718-6460 x 3007. The public is welcome! That link works -- check it out. VIC has been helping people locally (I know first-hand) since 1964.
