...our dedications for Peace in Iraq and Peace in Afghanistan! I got a nod from the Arborist Bill Mckinley, though. I think this years trees are going to Scholl Canyon Landfill. It will eventually be a park.[/quote]
Great going Sharon and Bill! I didn't even know about these dedications, I'll have to pay more attention next year also.

Anni told me about Taco Deli, which opened next to Starbucks in La Crescenta, right where another fresh Mexican take out had failed. She loved their juice combinations so much that she started going there every day, then she ate something. I think it was the fish taco. I've been enjoying the shrimp burrito at home after the past three vigils -- no more Baja Fresh, Los Burritos or the Burrito Factory for me -- but I'll probably have to choose something else from the menu soon, given the news from the Gulf Coast. I didn't know that Taco Deli originated in La Canada, frankly, so I was surprised they have a website -- and offer unedited comments on the Testimonials page complaining about the parking, decor, prices and "crazy owner" while raving about the food and juices: www.tacodeli.net/about-us.html

I like Taco Deli's summer tuna salad - with grapes and apples.
Surajung Korean BBQ in the same little complex is also great. They have a $9.99 lunch special with green salad, rice, side dishes and pork, beef and chicken to grill at your table.
We tried Frechicko today (the former Tofu Village). Bill's review from the Foothills Forum: Sharon and I had lunch today at Frechicko - "Fresh chicken and Mediterranean cuisine - Slow Fast Food." She had the grilled chicken salad, and I had the ground chicken (koobideh) sandwich with a cup of barley soup. We also got a side of babaganouj, which came with a pita.
Sharon's salad was primarily romaine, sprinkled with nicely-done chunks of grilled chicken, dressed lightly, with tomato, cucumber, celery, and onion. My sandwich was on nice fresh bread with yogurt and garlic dressing, cucumber, tomato and onion plus the koobideh.
We thought the food was pretty good, and ate all of it. Also for us ice tea drinkers they had nice brewed unsweetened black tea. Lunch for two was $20 not including tip. The place is very sparsely decorated inside; basically just tables and chairs, no art or anything on the walls. Maybe they are planning on adding decoration later.
Sandwiches are $5.50. The most expensive thing on the menu is a whole chicken for $14.99 which comes with rice and hummus, and choice of soup or salad.

They don't have a website up yet, although they did snag the frechicko.com and frechicko.net domains a few weeks ago.
I have to add the pita was freshly toasted and just yummy.

We just scraped at the delicious fluffy rice and finished ALL of our grilled veggies, extra hummus, the most wonderful, tender, perfectly grilled beef kabobs and seasoned ground chicken and ground beef kabobs AND green salads. I won't be hungry any time soon but I sure am HAPPY! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
