I'll be marching again in Hollywood along with others from Montrose Peace Vigil to observe the seventh anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq on Saturday, March 20. We've all become quite adept at getting around Hollywood, hooking up before the march and having a wonderful afternoon representing and protesting, each and every time. This thread's a good place to meet and plan over the next four weeks -- and reach out to others. Mass protests are also set that day in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) in Los Angeles is the sponsor here: www.pephost.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ANSWERLA

You are so clever Brian, putting up the poster for the 3/20 March, thanks!
Yes, we always have a fun time at these marches. Hitting the bar at Musso & Frank Grill pre-march one year with Marian (who barely drinks, I had to take up the slack!) was fun, and remember the French brunch downtown?
On March 20th, I have literally 4 other things scheduled, but the times are such that I really think I can do them all!
One of the events is a Korean BBQ fund-raiser at my daughter's school, so I'm taking orders. They will package it up to-go. Who wants marinated beef ribs, rice and kimchee as a pre-march lunch/brunch? Something yummy while waiting for the march to move out. MY TREAT. I'll come up with a veggie alternative for those who don't do meat if I hear from them.

YUM! OH! Brian and I would LOVE Korean BBQ. What a fab idea. I've had Korean BBQ on my mind for several weeks, now. Great minds, ect. ect. and so forth.
Is this too much fun for such a solemn occasion?

Parking near Hollywood and Vine must be getting worse every year with the immense vertical development there, I can only imagine. The smartest members of the Montrose Peace Vigil, especially Roberta, park in North Hollywood and take the subway right to the march, which just happens to end at the next train stop, Hollywood and Highland, where they glide down an escalator on their way home.
Anni and I have a not so hidden agenda. We park in the structure next to the Cinerama Dome on Sunset, only a few blocks from Hollywood and Vine. Yeah, we have to walk back there from the Chinese Theater. But we always stop to cool our heals in Amoeba Records across the street.

I have been getting email about the March 20th events from ALL my regular peace/political online sources and am so glad to see such unity of cross-listing. Me too, Roberta. Do you want to add Montrose Peace Vigil to the groups endorsing the march? I say, why not. Here's the link on the ANSWER LA website -- check A on question 5 -- if you're willing: www.pephost.org/site/Survey?SURVEY_ID=6100&ACTION_REQUIRED=URI_ACTION_USER_REQUESTSSo far, Roberta, Anni and I are going. Anybody else among the regular and irregulars readers of this board?

Roberta sent out a beautiful e-mail last month to everybody on the list she built in the first four years of the Montrose Peace Vigil. I can't resist quoting part of it: Obama said it himself re nuclear weapons, and I paraphrase, that only when the voices of peace are loud enough and unified enough to be heard over the din of the warmongers will these wars, so futile and contrary to true security, end.
Plus, do I ever do anything that isn't enjoyable? No I do not. Would I lead you into dreariness? Never. So fun is in the plan for the 20th.And how often do you get the opportunity to dine on Korean food in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard? So far, only Roberta, Jim, Anni and me have confirmed we're going. We'll meet at the southwest corner of Hollywood and Vine at noon, a quorum looking to make a revolution for fun. Anybody else?

Montrose Peace Vigil members have always enjoyed tremendous karma linking up and having a great time at the annual ANSWER Coalition marches protesting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Saturday, eight of us walked down the middle of Hollywood Boulevard from Vine past Highland: Roberta, Jeanne, Paige, Jim, Bruce, Anni, me and Joyce, who sees us on the corner and waves on those Fridays when we linger after 7 p.m., after she gets off from work. We met her at one of our previous war anniversary vigils that was promoted by Move On and she said she knew we'd be there in Hollywood too. We also said "hi" to Nancy from the Glendale Peace Vigil, who was standing near Musso and Frank and chanting, holding a sign above her head with both arms, and we ran into Louisa's friend John bearing a Winograd for Congress placard. The police quit giving crowd estimates years ago, so the news reports I've found just put us in the "hundreds" or "thousands." I think we had more marchers -- and spectators on the sidewalk -- last year. So far I've seen brief stories accompanied by some shots from the march on three local TV stations along with this page on the KPCC-FM website, which has a short photo-and-sound montage embedded: www.scpr.org/news/2010/03/20/people-gather-hollywood-and-vine-protest-war/Anni will probably post the group photo she took later today.

Hi Bill,
I guess the CV music parents finally wised up, in both assessing their current demographics and that everybody of all races/ethnicities (except Bruce) likes good galbi. I had to keep telling the servers that yes, I the white lady absolutely DID want the kimchee. And my order of 9 lunches to go momentarily overwhelmed their little lunch line, with the unfortunate result that Brian had a genuine"Where's the beef?" experience. Anni and I shared our ample portion though -- I hope everyone got enough and enjoyed it.
Good idea moving back to the foothills Bill and Karen!
