My grandmother remembered watching an organist play while watching a Charlie Chaplin movie at Pasadena's Egyptian theater (later renamed The Uptown) on East Colorado.
The pipe organ database didn't list the Alex Theatre in Glendale. Frank Lanterman was organist there (the 2 freeway is named for him, his house in La Canada Flintridge is a museum). His house was U shaped, he filled in the U, and put the pipe organ from the 4600 seat San Francisco Fox Theatre into the U on one level, and put a ballroom on the other level. You can see this Wurlitzer now at the El Capitan in Hollywood.
Fabulous San Francisco Fox
Helen Dell was a theatre organist, and organist for the LA Dodgers.
Ken Rosen played organ at Dodger Stadium, here he is playing an electronic organ at the Los Angeles Theatre
Interview with Bob Heil, of Heil Sound (theatre organist, ham radio operator, associated with rock bands)
San Fernando Valley Amateur Radio Club Crescenta Valley Radio Club
Ken Double, announcer for the hockey clubs Chicago Blackhawks and Houston Aeros, is a theatre organist (search for "ken double organ" on youtube)

Be sure to visit the Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar free admission, visit the old museum, and the new one across the street. Search for "nethercutt collection" on youtube. They have free organ concerts four times per year (limited seating, reservations necessary)
www.automobiledrivingmuseum.org/ Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo. They allow you to sit in some of the cars (including the one owned by Eleanor Roosevelt).

(chapters are called "tents" and are named for a L&H short or movie)
if you use their search function (search for "south pasadena"), you can see mentions of the South Pasadena tent (now seems to be defunct) and their joint events (silent films with live organ accompaniment) with the Los Angeles Theatre Organ Society latos.orgBe sure to look at their newsletter archive.

do a search for "music box steps" - a Laurel & Hardy short was filmed there.
Every year they show the film near the steps (see LA Times article above)

Music Box Steps Festival seems to be October every year.
About 7:20 into this 30 minute episode, you can hear "Stanley" composed by theatre organist Lyn Larsen. Stanley Laurel didn't have his own theme music, so Lyn composed one.

I read that this year marks the 100th anniversary of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari!
Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the first Our Gang/Little Rascals short. This version of it below is incomplete. For many years it was considered lost altogether. I believe there may now be a complete version somewhere.
I grew up watching the sound Our Gangs. I think it's too bad the silent versions weren't ever included in the mix at least occasionally (with maybe some sound effects added). They kind of disappeared from the collective consciousness, which is too bad.

Helen Dell was a theatre organist, and organist for the LA Dodgers.
I remember seeing her interviewed by KTLA's Tom Hatton in the late '70s!
