What? ? Oh well, we now have Glendale loc, with way better parking and closer to me. Target by Laemmle Playhouse will lose my business for cat food/litter, toilet paper etc., which has been my regular parking strategy to see movies there. I will miss swimming at Rose Bowl, then proceeding on to a matinee!

Good news: Laemmle's Playhouse 7 in Pasadena won't be closing permanently after all. The property has been leased to Landmark Theatres, which will reopen this summer after making several improvements. This article in today's Los Angeles Times also addresses the status of other local art houses:

Greg Laemmle responded to my voice mail query to assure me that "8 Days a Week" would be extended (so I wouldn't need to request time off from work to get to the theater during the week - as every showing had been sold out when I went the previous weekend and the automated system didn't give the screenings past the upcoming Thursday night). To get this voice mail - which started with - "hello, this is Greg Laemmle" - so soon after the DJT had won, and then - a few days later - be in that packed theater with Beatles on the screen - well, a Landmark Theater just isn't the same. Now Fayes is history. That Twilight Zone train with a stop at Willoughby keeps sounding better to me all the time.
