Maybe this shot was taken back in April, I'm not sure...it looks much cooler (and therefore cooler and able to refresh), enjoy: Added by Brian: We're on the corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in Montrose, California, every Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. -- at least until all of our troops come home from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Joining nine Montrose Peace Vigil regulars on the corner this week: Sharon stopped by on her way to the Glendale Peace Vigil. Bill returned again to visit his old neighborhood. Cynthia was back with Nick after a long absence. And two very young ones along with five teenagers spontaneously picked up signs.
Total attendance for the first vigil in August was 20, the highest participation since October 22, 2010.

Some visual aids for our enjoyment (I hope): Great shot Anni! If I were Obama and saw Jeanne's "I'm a Mom, a Christian and a teacher, and I say time to end wars forever" face, I would so obey, immediately. Last week [science] Mike invited us all up to their place after this week's vigil. There was a little uncertainty due to whether the Mars rover crew will release Elaine to come home by then. I know eating is uppermost on most minds at 7pm on Fridays, but seems like we can all just pick up our pizza, or chicken, or whatever and bring it along. I'm gonna plan on it!

This just in from Science Mike:
Hi,
During tonight's Peace Vigil, Elaine might finally return home after working for 4 weeks at Cape Kennedy. Therefore, we need to chose a different weekend for the BBQ I was proposing last week Please let me know if there are any particularly good or bad weeks coming up for a BBQ in your schedule. If Friday's are bad, we could also try doing it after a curveball.. Hopefully, I'll make it to the Vigil tonight to discuss options (schedule, food, drink, etc.).
via Anni; More at the corner, I suspect!

Mike told me that not only will he host us after the vigil on the 26th at his exquisite canyon lair, he wants to feed us as well! I'm glad that the party has been postponed for two weeks because it will give us a chance to inform the regulars who weren't at the corner on Friday, such as Nancy, Edmond and Bruce.
Most of this week's 12 participants were stalwarts -- we had no spontaneous joiners. It was fabulous to see Robert back again. Traffic was light on the streets and the sidewalks, and the temperature was about ten degrees below average. By my measure, we've had only one hot Friday all summer.

The great weather and good vibes also blessed this Friday's vigil. Attendance hit double digits after Roberta had just left for the airport and Jeanne for an interfaith gathering, when a man named Mike with his peaceful Doberman joined us and a 14 month old girl -- who must be the youngest official participant in our five and a half years -- picked up a sign taller than her by herself, stepped forward and displayed it: - Aug. 5 - 20
- Aug. 12 - 12
- Aug. 19 - 10
Mike is hosting a barbecue at his house immediately after next Friday's vigil -- almost everybody who's been at the past two vigils says they'll be there. For details and directions, phone or e-mail any Montrose Peace Vigil regular you know -- or show up on the corner next week between 5:30 and 7 p.m. and carpool.

The summer finally hit us after many weeks of blessed bliss. The heat and humidity were so daunting that the counter-protesters didn't show up, but our attendance was only down a bit: - Aug. 5 - 20
- Aug. 12 - 12
- Aug. 19 - 10
- Aug. 26 - 9
Average participation this month matched last August with 13 peaceniks per week. Montrose Peace Vigil averaged 12 for July and 9 for June. We are grateful to Mike and Elaine for hosting almost everybody from the corner at a post-vigil party in their amazing, cool and comforting backyard.
