On just about any Wednesday night [until] mid-October, you are welcome to join me between 7 and 10 PM at the La Canada/Flintridge Community Center (on Chevy Chase, just south of Foothill) to make and decorate bowls for our November fundraiser for hunger. A mere $5 dollar fee will provide you with instruction in bowl making, lots of fun, and a healthy heart, knowing that you are helping. Yikes! There are only a few weeks left at the community center. Then soon it will be Saturday, Nov. 14. I know where I will be dining that evening. The Crescenta Valley Empty Bowls website has been updated -- this page illustrates the ongoing Running of the Bowls: www.cvemptybowls.org/running-of-the-bowls.htmlTake a look at the other pages while you're there -- it's a beautiful site.

I hear that even flax seed is delicious in a hand made ceramic bowl. So, come and join us on the 14th.

Hi Jeanne! How many more Wednesday evenings 'til we wrap up work on new Empty Bowls??? Thanks for asking anni. Just three more Wednesdays to make bowls. Then we'll be well on our way to being ready for the November 14th event. Hope you are all saving space in your schedules and stomachs for soup. Rumor has it that a request was going to be made for a return of Leo's famous Cajun clam chowder today.

Hey Jeanne, you are the smartest gurl in class! You did the quote thingy all by yourself!
Even more exciting (selfishly speaking), "A return of Leo's famous Cajun clam chowder", which I totally missed, as well as all the lovely folks, last Empty Bowls!

Tonight I was most pleasantly surprised by Jeanne and the CVUMC (where we've been working on all the new Empty Bowls). I received the Best Ever Bag of Treats and a most beautiful card from my friends at the ceramics lab. Wow! And I thought it was such a treat in itself to spend time with so many dedicated souls. Did I mention WOW? And same to you ALL, but more of it!

One week, yes, ONE WEEK, from today, Empty Bowls will be happening.
5-8:30 PM, Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, 2700 Montrose Ave.
Beautiful bowls, made by beautiful volunteers (some by anni. Will you be able to find her handiwork?)
Delicious soup made by hearty chefs.
Wonderful music. Classical, jazz, piano, guitar, harp. And some 50's sounds from Heavy Mellow. And a special appearance by Forrest Robinson, Paige's husband.
Awesome silent auction items. ( I tell you this, even though it may mean that you outbid me on the Paul Newman DVD collection.)
All of these good things in one place at one time so that our community can enjoy time together, sharing a common goal of helping people get enough to eat. Your presence at Empty Bowls will be a way to help make peace in the world. It's hard to feel and act peacefully when you are hungry.
I hope to see you and all of your friends there. What the heck, bring your enemies too.
