I love the way the Rainbow Chard looks, Roberta, but I'm right with you and the yuck face when it comes to the taste. Have to admit my sister and Jeanne have some yummy sounding recipes that do this noble veggie justice!

Oh, yes, indeedy, the avocados and the chicken seasoned perfectly with fresh, organic garlic from Gilroy via our wonderful Jeanne. Thanks, Jeanne!

Since Taco Deli closed their La Crescenta store (the La Canada store is still open) Brian has been REALLY missing their delicious Shrimp Burrito. Tonight that's what I'm attempting...I know they will be different, but hope they'll be tasty in their own right!

Unusual for me, I am not actually eating anything right now. What I am contemplating though is what to do with some high-quality fresh orange juice left here by a visiting peacenik (Anni, I'm lookin' at u!). Hummmm, also in the fridge is a carton of whipping cream (long story). Think maybe homemade "creamsicles" would hit the spot at the corner tomorrow? And who can most misuse the message boards threads? Here's a link to my latest in the Glendale News Press (last one in Mailbag). www.glendalenewspress.com/news/opinion/tn-gnp-mailbag-20100909,0,2661671.story

Hummmm, also in the fridge is a carton of whipping cream (long story). Think maybe homemade "creamsicles" would hit the spot at the corner tomorrow? Like this, but on a stick??? Ingredients 1 cup milk 1 vanilla bean, split 3/4 cup sugar 9 egg yolks 6 tablespoons orange juice concentrate 1 tablespoon orange extract 2 tablespoons corn syrup 2 cups heavy cream, whipped to soft peaks 1 pint raspberries 1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar (optional) Orange segments, for garnish Equipment: 12 ramekins Strips of parchment or waxed paper Tape Directions In a bowl, whisk together the milk, vanilla bean, sugar and yolks. Cook over a simmering water bath, whisking often, to 183 degrees. Strain and whip until cool. Add the orange juice concentrate, orange extract, and corn syrup to the egg mixture. Fold in the whipped cream. * Pipe the mousse into 4-ounce ramekins with paper collars taped on the outside that extend 1/2-inch above the rim. Freeze. To serve, remove the paper collars. Puree the raspberries and sugar in a blender and pass through a sieve. Garnish with raspberry puree and orange segments. *not this part. And the only misuse of the message board is NOT POSTING. We love every post! PS...What a great letter, Roberta. You are to the point, thoughtful and heroic!!!

We loved your letter Roberta - it was excellent and not very long, did they edit it?
And to keep this in the thread: we ate at Frank's Famous today to support VOICE's effort to save the Verdugo Hills Golf Course.

And to further the twisting of threads, something I just read in a political theory essay about state sponsored violence: Max Weber's definition of a state, "a human community that (successfully) claims the monopoly of the legitimate use of physical force within a given territory." That seems to fit. The "given territory" has expanded in the last ten years.

No, they didn't at all, guess it looked longer as an email! www.glendalenewspress.com/news/opinion/tn-gnp-mailbag-20100909,0,2661671.story We ate at Frank's also, they have excellent food. The VHGC "cafe" has been refreshed I read. Have you eaten there? That is a good way for non-golfers (people like me who are too horrible at golf to play on planet Earth) to support the course.

While driving/shopping, the car thermometer said 106...my question to the MPV is: Where is the COLDEST place to dine in our area???
