Jeanne forwarded the following to me today from Paige, saying she, Paige and Roberta are planning on attending this forum, which will have some of the speakers they heard at an election discussion at All Saints Church. Anni and I want to go too:
Peacemaking: An Interfaith Imperative
Moving Peacemaking to the Center of our Faith Traditions
Valley Interfaith Peacemaking Forum: People of faith who grieve over the incalculable destruction of the war in Iraq and yearn to bring peacemaking and preventing war into the center of their faith communities are invited...We will hear from Muslim, Jewish and Christian clergy and faith leaders about the moral imperative of peacemaking in each of the Abrahamic faith traditions. Panelists who are involved in local efforts to repair the human devastation of the war in Iraq will talk about ways in which valley residents can become involved in that work. Participants will leave with a toolkit for local action, and will have the opportunity to connect with others in this area committed to this work.
Sunday, February 22nd, 3:00-5:30 PM, St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 3646 Coldwater Canyon, Studio City, Calif. 91604.
Speakers: Rabbi Steven Jacobs, Dr. Maher Hathout, Rev. Henry Atkins with the Rev. Anne Hines moderating. Panelists: The Rev. Pam Tyler, Interfaith Immigration & Refugee Services (Iraqi refugees); Dr. Carol Tannenberg, The Soldier's Project (services for veterans); Steven Rohde, Constitutional Lawyer (torture); and Dr. Mary Elizabeth Perry, Historian (interfaith dialogue).
The program is sponsored by VIC (Valley Interfaith Council) Social Concerns Committee. For more information contact: Rhetta Alexander, 818/718-6460, x 3007.
Please forward this message to all interested persons, and print and distribute the attached event flyer.
