Isn't it required for Dodger fans to leave early?!?! Although we didn't leave until the last out of the 12th, we stayed 5 innings longer than the average Dodger fan...

True, there were so many activities in July to write about instead, but that's not the only reason I haven't posted in this thread. With apologies to my friends who root for the Reds, it was getting too weird to mention for the third month in a row that the Dodgers hold the best record in baseball.
Tonight, just barely. The number two Angels were off, the Dodgers lost, so the real Los Angeles team maintains a lead of only .001 games.
They were down four runs in the ninth but scored three. Then Manny left the bases loaded to end the game. He hasn't had one RBI since he hit that pinch-hit, first-swing grand slam at home on July 22.
Bruce and I don't always agree, but we both said that Juan Pierre should have been kept in the line up when Manny returned from his suspension. The Man with Two First Names still looks sharp as a pinch hitter and late-inning replacement. It couldn't hurt to bench Manny for a game or two.
Enough of this kitchen table managing. I'll perform my duties from our Infield Reserve seats in Chavez Ravine this Thursday against the Braves, along with Anni, who loves to be somewhere she's encouraged to shout, for our second game of the season.

I was tired at the game tonight and, like the Dodgers, a little down for eight and a half innings. Then Anni and I were substantially invigorated by Andre Ethier's three-run homer -- his fifth walk-off RBI this season and the team's 29th come-from-behind win.
Believe it or don't, most of the fans stayed for the entire game. Coincidentally or not, it was Mormon Night in Chavez Ravine. Anni and I slipped out at the beginning of the cable simulcast of Andre's post-game interview on the 29-year-old Diamondvision screen, a little bummed because they cut short the Randy Newman song. But we got out of the parking lot in less than five minutes.

Great game last night despite the Dodgers' loss, essentially because of Pujols' stolen base. The Cardinals are scary good. And my team -- and its fans, I must say -- looked flat at the end.
Time to get off the ground. And be scared: The Rockies were fifteen and a half games back three months ago. Now, under Jim Tracy's management, just three and a half.

I haven't posted much in this thread with everything else going on at home, on the corner and in the world this summer, but I've been watching the Dodgers avidly as their National League West lead had dwindled to two games. With only 20 games left in the season, I've also started paying attention to other teams in both leagues.
Bruce, a notorious provocateur and dispirited Reds fan, tried to get a rise out of me before last night's game by suggesting that the Hated Ones will topple the Dodgers from their lead in San Francisco this weekend. I sat in front of the television and delighted in all ten runs, seven more than they needed to beat the Giants. Then I moved to the computer in time to learn that the Padres blew a 1-0 lead in the ninth to the amazing Colorado Iraqis, who won their eighth in a row.
One thing Bruce and I agree on: If Jim Tracy's team bests Joe Torre's for the NL West championship, it might be the story of the year.

now you know ;D Thank you, Martine, for warning Roberta -- the only person I know who does not like Vin Scully -- that she cannot escape his voice even if she flees to Winnipeg. However, you've given me more incentive to go there. The Dodgers return to Chavez Ravine Friday night to face the Hated Ones from San Francisco, leading the Rockies by five games in the National League West. The magic number is 11. Any combination of Dodger wins and Iraqi losses adding up to 11 wins the division.

The magic number is 1 for the Los Angeles Dodgers to take the National League West.
I could have written that in this thread every day this week.
However, I feel confident with Randy Wolf on the mound tonight against the Colorado Iraqis in Chavez Ravine. The Dodgers may even sweep while they tune up for the playoffs at home.
