Montrose Peace Vigil started advertising for peace and justice in January 2006 -- and we haven't missed a week on the corner since. If you can't come to the intersection of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in Montrose, California 91020 between 5:30 and 7 p.m. on any Friday, we would love to hear from you here, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
You can always see what's new on the message board by using the link below. Recent Posts is the only place where the latest posts from different threads are displayed -- with the most recent post first. If you want to read more about a topic, click on the blue title of the post to see the rest of that thread. montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/posts/recentWe welcome new members. The 40th anniversary of John and Yoko's May 1969 Bed-In: Just one of the photos on the webpage linked below. The Montrose Peace Vigil message board -- which will mark its 10th anniversary this October -- has more than 6,700 posts and hundreds of photos of our activities. Last May, a dear friend and fellow activist distilled our essence onto one page. Oss Rae, a founder of the Eagle Rock vigil in 2002 who's also participated in many Montrose Peace Vigils and other special events we've had over the past several years, wrote a wonderful and concise article about the history of Montrose Peace Vigil for the Los Angeles Indymedia news site, where he's also a frequent contributor: la.indymedia.org/news/2018/05/296766.php

Every Friday since 2008, I've written down the first names of everyone who's held a sign on the corner or demonstrated in some way. Then I count the names and write brief reports in the monthly vigil threads listed in the link below -- that's the first index page of the Montrose Peace Vigil Activities department -- one of the six departments on the homepage. Anni posts photos, and other members and occasionally some guests comment too. montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/board/2/montrose-peace-vigil-activitiesAt the end of each monthly thread, I average the number of weekly vigil participants and compare that monthly average to previous months and years. A strange habit, I know, but it's even weirder how the averages hover around a dozen demonstrators, year after year. The average so far in 2018 is 12 participants per week. Add half a peacenik if you're not rounding.

Some of the demonstrators at the Montrose Peace Vigil on September 7, 2018. When we're not standing for peace every Friday, Montrose Peace Vigil regulars are participating in other activities around our area, like monthly movie screenings at Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church and Saturday vigils in Eagle Rock. Learn about those happenings -- and many others -- on the first index page of the Community section, which is also accessible from the homepage: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/board/3/communityCommunity has the most views of any department on the message board, except for Montrose Peace Vigil Activities. Feel free to promote your event there -- even if you are guest. You do not have to log in or register to post on the Montrose Peace Vigil message board. Just click on the brown Create Thread button on the page linked above.

Most of the 30 people who walked with the Peace Train in last year's Montrose Christmas Parade. For the past eight years, Montrose Peace Vigil regulars and their friends have marched down Honolulu Avenue with our custom built Peace Train in the Montrose Christmas Parade. The 2018 parade will happen Saturday evening, December 1. Click on the link below -- our latest annual thread about the Peace Train -- throughout the coming weeks as we make plans, then report about our march afterwards. We will also share some photos and, hopefully, new videos too. montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/thread/832/annual-peace-montrose-christmas-paradeMike, the Peace Train's engineer, in both meanings of the word.

I joined you today while walking in Montrose. So happy to join you today. I live in lake arrowhead but visit my children. One family in Simi Valley and one family in Glassell Park. I am hoping to consistently join you on fridays in Montrose and will become as involved as possible. Look forward to getting to know all of you in the future

The scene from the sidewalk at the December 7th Montrose Peace Vigil. We met Nona and her husband Russell at our 100th anniversary observance of Armistice Day last month. They were walking to the Sunday Montrose Farmers Market when they saw us in a circle of camp chairs and stopped to talk. Later, Nona posted on the message board as a guest: I joined you today while walking in Montrose. So happy to join you today. I live in lake arrowhead but visit my children. One family in Simi Valley and one family in Glassell Park. I am hoping to consistently join you on fridays in Montrose and will become as involved as possible. Look forward to getting to know all of you in the future Since then, Nona and Russell demonstrated at a Montrose Peace Vigil and marched with our Peace Train in the Montrose Christmas Parade. We are so happy to know them. Here's a brief report and some photos of our commemoration of Armistice Day on the corner: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/post/7174/thread

Members of Montrose Peace Vigil in October 2007 at an anti-war march and rally in downtown Los Angeles. This month marks the 13th anniversary of Montrose Peace Vigil. And six of the nine people in the photo above are still coming to the corner. Nobody could have known in January 2006 when Roberta held a sign opposing the war in Iraq by herself at the intersection of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in Montrose, California -- Nancy was the first to join her minutes later -- that so many people would keep showing up to advertise for peace every week since. Over the past decade, Montrose Peace Vigil has consistently averaged a dozen participants each Friday. In 2018, the vigils averaged 12.4 demonstrators per week. When I started this message board in October 2008, one of the first threads was "The Archives," where I copied a few brief posts I had written about Montrose Peace Vigil on another message board earlier that year. I also reprinted three newspaper articles: the story about us and the counter protesters that ran on the front page of the second section in the Los Angeles Times, a front page story about our 40th anniversary observance of John and Yoko's first Bed-In in the Glendale News-Press complete with mattress, and a column by the local historian in the Crescenta Valley Weekly. It's here all on one page: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/thread/5/archives

Traffic to this message board has increased considerably in the past year, with more unique IP addresses visiting daily. And some of the most popular threads aren't about Montrose Peace Vigil. Please indulge me as I promote the music of Ian Hunter once again. I've been a huge fan of the singer-songwriter since I discovered his band Mott the Hoople in 1973. If you haven't heard of him or them, you're in the vast majority of humanity, especially in the U.S. The breakthrough single that David Bowie gave to Mott, "All the Young Dudes," was much more popular in Europe. Ian's biggest U.S. solo hits were sung by others -- "Ships" by Barry Manilow and "Cleveland Rocks" by the Presidents of the United States of America as the theme of "The Drew Carey Show" -- a long time ago. Yet Ian, who turns 80 in June, is still more prolific -- and brilliant -- than any of his contemporaries, in the studio and on the road. I began touting Ian Hunter as soon as I established the Montrose Peace Vigil message board in 2008, initially in the threads "New music by old people" and "Brian's Blog." Since then, I've started several threads bearing his name, easy for the search bots to scoop up, and they have amassed many, many, many times the number of views compared to other threads in the Entertainment and the Arts department. The latest topic about the shows next month in the U.S. and the U.K., "Reunion of the 1974 Mott the Hoople," has garnered 896 views since July: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/thread/800/reunion-1974-mott-hoopleThis one with exactly 1,300 views now, "Yet another Ian Hunter thread," covers his latest album in 2016 and most recent concerts here in L.A. in 2017 with the extraordinary Rant Band over two pages: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/thread/592/another-ian-hunter-thread?page=1The Montrose Peace Vigil message board is your best resource on the Internet for Ian Hunter news, the coolest videos and unique if sometimes fuzzy photos.

In the photo above, singer-songwriter Katherine Terrien delights a group of girls during the Montrose Peace Vigil on May 17, 2019. They had stopped on the corner to get some frozen yogurt after a birthday party. Below, some of them later picked up signs and joined our demonstration. Katherine has come to Montrose from Redondo Beach most Fridays since the end of 2017, gaining a lot of fans with her excellent compositions and cover songs, such as Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Imagine." I started a thread on this message board last year to highlight her talents and embed her You Tube videos: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/thread/784/music-katherine-terrien
