Leaving Mr. Cain on the previous page, (too soon?) and turning to two of my favorite people that I don't know and almost always agree with: Here are two great interviews of Tom Hayden -- talking about the future of the Occupy movement and the wisdom of civil disobedience -- on Current TV's "Countdown with Keith Olberman." The webpage that LA Progressive put together starts with a transcript -- and it's not labeled, but the embedded video further down is obviously from Tom's earlier appearance that Keith mentioned: www.laprogressive.com/progressive-issues/civil-disobedience/With a special "thanks" to Brian!

There was a good letter in LA Times that is fitting to paste here in honor of Armistice Day. It's written by a WWII veteran.
Re "Remembering California's war dead," Nov. 6
You cite figures indicating that there have been 6,204 U.S. military deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan.
As a veteran of World War II, I can still remember the wounds and suffering of that long-ago time. Veterans Day will soon be upon us, and it should bring home the fact that every war really represents a failure of humans to conduct their affairs in a sensible and civilized way. Dead soldiers are victims even more than they are heroes.
Let us stop celebrating war remembrances in terms of heroics and patriotism and instead recognize that every war marks the very lowest level to which humanity sinks. We should honor the fallen, but more so we must be peacemakers who thwart the creation of future generations of wasted young men and women.

What an excellent article, Jeanne! With your permission, I'd like to copy and paste a quote for my Facebook wall. Statements like this, made by war veterans, are so much more powerful. The "patriots" can't say much when it comes from a veteran. Peace

I noticed that the editor took liberties with our name changing Roberta's original Montrose Peace Vigil to: This is done each week at the direction of the Montrose Shopping Park Association that has mandated that the flag be lowered for “political demonstrations” at the site. The appearance of the Montrose peace vigil, a lawful, peaceful protest of our current foreign wars, inspired the Association to enact the policy. Really? How low is this low class blow by lower case? Sheesh

Having been thoroughly disgusted by the police action against peaceful protesters at UCDavis...well maybe this will help with that bitter taste in my mind: ...borrowed from a friend (Shannon Ogle) of a friend (David Doty) on FB. Who borrowed the original painting by Georges Seurat.

Frank Luntz, a Republican strategist, recently spoke to the Republican Governor's Association and responded to one question that kept coming up: how should the right respond to the Occupy Movement? Yahoo News was there and listed Luntz's 10 do's and don'ts. I think it's worth knowing what these new talking points are and how they plan on reframing the present financial crisis. You can find those talking points at the following link: news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/republicans-being-taught-talk-occupy-wall-street-133707949.html

In other news, the News-Press says my contribution to last Sunday "In Threory" got left behind because of the power being off in LaCanada Thursday. It is on the website now: www.glendalenewspress.com/news/opinion/tn-pas-1204-in-theory-love-sex,0,6572363.story

Edmond, I appreciate you posting the link to that story because I was intrigued when I learned about the Luntz list on Ed Schultz' show on MSNBC and you provided the source. A great exclusive by Yahoo News.
Anni and I remember first seeing Luntz last decade when he ran focus groups on MSNBC demonstrating his genuis for manipulation before he went on to greater success working directly for Republican candidates and elected officials. He deserves a lot of credit for what happened in 2010.
I've heard many of those talking points uttered by Republicans for months, if not years. When he says that he's "frightened to death" of the Occupy message, perhaps he's just admitting that his mojo is wearing off.
