The other day I found an abandoned wheelchair but with no rubber on the tires. I'm told wheelchairs are typically thrown out when that's missing, but I thought I could send it to Cuba via Pastors for Peace (I've donated crutches and a walker to them in the past) because Cubans are big on repairing stuff. However, I found out Pastors for Peace hasn't gone there in a while.
Does anyone know of another place that might want it and be willing to have it repaired? I have it folded up in the back of my car and am anxious to be rid of it.
Seems to me that Goodwill would be ideal. Disabled people make a living refurbishing the donated goods, and the charity has donation locations everywhere.
They will hand you a receipt. As a tax professional it's my duty to note that it does not qualify as a donation if you itemize deductions because the wheelchair was not in "good used condition or better."
