On November 19 Bill gave what as far as we can tell is the first non theist invocation at a Glendale City Council meeting. The video of the meeting is available from this city's webpage, scroll down to Available Archives, select the City Council, and then Nov 19: www.glendaleca.gov/government/agendas-minutes-8996

Bill's invocation was so beautifully written and delivered. Thank you, Sharon, for starting this thread. I especially appreciated how Bill drew in the audience standing in the council chamber and those watching the video, outlining our role in local government and stating exactly how we can participate.
As the mayor pro tem said when Bill concluded, "Thank you, Mr. Weisman, for your extensive involvement in Glendale civic life throughout the years."

I was delighted with the "optics" - the three women in the audience behind Bill perfectly illustrated the diversity he was applauding. The meeting was in the Planning Dept meeting room - the elevator in city hall is being repaired so they've moved to the other room equipped for live streaming. It has a different camera angle. It's almost like the cosmos conspired to showcase the non believer...
The city clerk called Bill a couple of days ago to let him know an outraged citizen wrote in to complain about allowing non clergy to give an invocation. Our city clerk explained the relevant law to him.
