“’A Reckoning in Boston’ dramatizes the many levels that white supremacy plays out both in individual lives and in the systems of a city, such as transit, housing, politics and place. By providing an important window into Boston's legacy of racial division and today's racial wealth divide, Reckoning also reveals the power of education, enduring ideas, facing our own privilege, and fearless community organizing to reshape communities." Chuck Collins
After the movie, our discussion will include how systemic racism with the redlining of specific Los Angeles neighborhoods from around 1930 to 1960 has led to many of the discrepancies in wealth, health, food access and education that we see today with maps that overlay the historic red lines with current demographics. We will also discuss how housing justice movements are pushing for a right to housing in California.
We will open the Zoom event at around 7:15. The main program will begin at 7:30. We will enable video so that we can optionally see each other if you choose to enable your camera. Before the program, we will have announcements regarding upcoming events, actions for peace and social justice.
