Jeanne passed along this appeal for volunteers coinciding with the U.S. Postal Service's annual food drive.
The Bailey Human Care Center of Tujunga United Methodist Church will sort the cans and other nonperishable food items collected by letter carriers from three post offices on Saturday, May 13, from 2 to 7 p.m. in its Parish Hall at 9901 Tujunga Canyon Blvd. in Tujunga, CA 91042.
"If you or your group will be interested in helping," says Connie Wright of the Bailey Center, "let me know."

What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Anni and I made new friends while sorting bags of nonperishable groceries into a variety of labeled boxes alongside Montrose Peace Vigil stalwarts Janice, Jeanne and her grandson Simon. I encountered only one package to reject, a box of wheat crackers with an expiration date in 2002. Donors overall were thoughtful and generous.
