A fun and worthwhile invitation from our dear friend Bob Zaugh and The Chambers Brothers:

We are organizing a fund raising Birthday party for Gary Tyler on Sunday July 15 in Santa Monica at Jan Goodman and Jerry Manpearl’s house in Santa Monica. The party will include a concert by the Chambers Brothers. Yes, the “Time Has Come Today Chambers Brothers. And the Time Has Come Today for us to support the reentry of Gary Tyler who was wrongly convicted and sentenced to death in Louisiana in 1975. Gary turns 60 on July 10. Entrance is $60, (or a donation of $1.50 per year for the 41 ½ years that Gary was in Angola prison, starting as the youngest person on death row).
These donations are important because Gary Tyler was framed as a16 year old teenager and thus came out of prison with zero dollars in Social Security funds. One must have 40 quarters, or ten years of employment to qualify for even minimal social security. Thus he will be 69 years old before he qualifies. Gary had to start from scratch upon leaving Angola Prison. He had no paid work history, no drivers license, no savings, had never had an apartment. Even going to Ralphs to shop was an eye opening experience upon leaving prison. Even as he was starting from ground zero Gary immediately became a community force, speaking out on support of Prop 62 to end the Death Penalty in California. He spoke at events with Mike Farrell, Gil Garcetti, Jackson Browne and others. He has lectured at CSUN with Rev James Lawson, CSULB with Danny Trejo, Loyola Marymount, Venice Art Garden, UCLA African American Studies, Loyola Law School, Hastings Law School, All Saints Episcopal Church, Scott United Methodist Church, University Methodist Church, Irvine, Tim Robbins Actors Gang (2 times), Cal Tech University, Bible federation Intl (2 times), USC ( 5 times in less than 2 years), and many other places.
I am setting this up through GoFund me and we are asking $60 if you will be attending the party. However, we are asking for people to donate whatever they can large or small. Our role is to support Gary financially so he can continue to develop as a community leader.
I ASK YOU TO NOT ONLY DONATE BUT PASS THIS ALONG TO YOUR FRIENDS. LETS ALL HELP PROVIDE GARY WITH SOME FINANCIAL SECURITY IN THIS DECADE AND BEYOND.
Regards, Bob Zaugh
I will provide address and other details to those who are coming to the party.
