In case anyone reading the Montrose Peace Vigil message board can make it, I'll share Roberta's e-mail from last Saturday that she sent to folks who've attended past Brown Bag Lunch Vigils in Pasadena: Please mark your calendars and plan to join our monthly "... NOT war" vigil at Rep. Schiff's office, Holly and Raymond, 12 noon til 1 pm, Wednesday Feb. 16th.
Ed has lots of great signs or bring your own on the theme. He has also created a superb leaflet directly targeting Schiff's many war funding votes and referencing fact-based sources criticizing the wisdom of our strategy in Afghanistan. Last year Mr. Schiff did vote for the McGovern-Obey-Jones amendment that would have required a plan for beginning to bring the troops home by the end of next year. Movement on his part is possible -- he brags about this vote in his emails to me -- so let's keep up our pressure on him to really end this futile war.
Though our organizing group, PDAmerica.org, has changed their vigil schedule to every other month, we have a solid core who think sticking to every 3rd Wednesday gives us more visibility, consistency, and is easier to remember!
So there won't be a PDA letter to deliver, however I think Schiff and his staff would find copies of Ed's leaflet of great interest -- maybe with some of those little valentine hearts that say PEACE LOVER ;-)
I will be with you in spirit as I am back east visiting our daughter. Go forth and continue spreading the word to really support our troops by ending this manifestly wrong war.

Those who are tending the home vigil fires instead of galavanting around on other shores have decided because of the rain [good work on that by the way, my garden back there will appreciate it] to postpone the vigil at Schiff's office til NEXT Wednesday, the 23rd.
Anni, do your no-rain dance that day please!

The Word document in the attachment is Ed's aforementioned fabulous flyer. Ed has...created a superb leaflet directly targeting Schiff's many war funding votes and referencing fact-based sources criticizing the wisdom of our strategy in Afghanistan. Coincidentally, I received a letter from Rep. Schiff the next day in the mail in response to the PDA missive that I signed at the Brown Bag Lunch Vigil last month. In which he does indeed cite his vote last June. Hopefully, Ed's campaign will result in more letters to Schiff and a new, even better form letter from him. Those who are tending the home vigil fires instead of gallivanting around on other shores have decided because of the rain to postpone the vigil at Schiff's office til NEXT Wednesday, the 23rd. Ed and the other regulars made a good call. It rained in Burbank between noon and 1 p.m. last Wednesday, so I'm sure it must have come down on the northeast corner of Holly and Raymond in Pasadena as well. Attachments:

Progressive Democrats of America has drafted an ambitious wish list for its first bi-monthly Brown Bag Lunch Vigil -- ending the war in Afghanistan, providing Medicare to all and even reviving the Humphrey-Hawkins full employment act -- and the group has revamped its website, which now embeds maps of each gathering. But Ed, Roberta and the other stalwarts are starting their second year of uninterrupted monthly vigils outside Rep. Adam Schiff's office on Wednesday, March 16, at the northeast corner of Raymond and Holly in Pasadena from noon to 1 p.m. Here's their page on the PDA site: www.pdamerica.org/events/view/ca29-rep-adam-schiffbrown-bag-lunch-vigil

I forgot to ask Roberta if there's a Brown Bag Lunch Vigil in Pasadena on Wednesday the 20th, and it's practically too late to publicize it now. Still, I'd love to hear about today's vigil because I'm eager to return to the corner of Raymond and Holly on May 18, when tax season is finally done. Progressive Democrats of America has already listed next month's Schiff vigil on its site: www.pdamerica.org/events/view/ca29-rep-adam-schiffbrown-bag-lunch-vigilTom Hayden, who's been doing some of his best work and sharpest writing in the peace movement lately, mentions the Brown Bag Lunch Vigils on this webpage, "How to Pressure Congress: A Primer" -- tomhayden.com/home/how-to-pressure-congress-a-primer.html

Hopefully, Roberta will correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume that the 15th consecutive monthly Brown Bag Lunch Vigil will happen from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, near Rep. Adam Schiff's district office on the northeast corner of Holly and Raymond in Pasadena. Progressive Democrats of America, which launched the BBLV on the third Wednesday in March 2010, cut the vigils down to bimonthly this year. But Roberta, Ed and other Paadena stalwarts still show up every month. I had been planning to return to the corner in June -- until a very busy client, whom I've been trying to meet, offered me the one hole in schedule, which is 10:30 on the 15th. I'll try to come back in July for the next official PDA Brown Bag Lunch Vigil.

Exactly right, Brian, we will be in Pasadena at Raymond and Holly across from Rep. Schiff's office, next Wednesday at noon. All welcome! I just spoke with a volunteer White House operator prompted by CREDO's latest campaign: act.credoaction.com/call/report/?r=8046&cp_id=111&tg=743&id=22209-1182726-oZ_GlWx (I failed to capture the link w/o my name, so you can be Roberta too or follow the directions to be yourself.) After the brief script, I asked her if I could share a bit more, which she was ok with. During his recent visit at stop after stop, his own (volunteer) troops in Afghanistan very movingly and eloquently asked Sec'y. Gates why they can't come home, now that OBL is dead. He made the usual flimsy excuses, which made me sick at heart, and embarrassed for our country. I asked her to please pass this on from me to our President. In other news, last night at my request Glendale Mayor Laura Friedman, seconded by Councilman Rafi Manoukian, put the War $$$ Home resolution on Council agenda for next Tuesday night's meeting. codepinkalert.org/article.php?id=5774L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa is already signed on. Glendale folks, please join us at Council, 6:00pm+ next Tuesday to support this.

Update, special time for Schiff vigil next week -- 11:30am. Coincidently a CREDO delegation is meeting with staff then to urge steep withdrawal from Afghanistan. They can point to opposition in the street, which I hope consists of more than Ed and I!

I sincerely hope that my client reschedules our meeting -- he did it once already -- so I can go.

Had a normal turnout today, 7 in all, and thanks so much Anni for joining us. Leaflets, supportive comments, only 2 people shouted out "It's Bush's war" in response to Ed's "Stop funding Obama's war." Do they not know the shrub is no longer the Commander-in-Chief?
One of the CREDO guys stopped by before, and the smiling young Schiff staffer who took our letter said they had 4 people.
A good inside/outside presence.
