The official flyer for the Brown Bag Lunch Vigils by Progressive Democrats of America for next Wednesday, July 20, does not even mention the wars or military spending. But that certainly won't stop the stalwarts outside of Rep. Adam Schiff's office in Pasadena from raising their signs and voices -- and engaging passersby on the corner of Raymond and Holly -- from noon to 1 p.m. Here's their page on the PDA website: www.pdamerica.org/events/view/brown-bag-lunch-vigil-ca-29-rep-adam-schiffRoberta, I have to go to a seminar, so I'm going to miss the third Brown Bag Lunch Vigil in a row since tax season ended. I won't jinx anything by saying: Hope to see you, Ed and the gang again on August 17!

Here is the message I just sent to 2 local peace lists: Our Brown Bag Lunch Vigil, the 3rd Wednesday of each month, is this Wednesday, September 21st, noon til 1:00 p.m. at Raymond and Holly, outside Rep. Schiff's office in Pasadena. I know you also have seen numerous recent headlines that economic inequality in the U.S. is growing -- poverty is up and so is wealth at the top. The middle class is struggling. Taxes paid by the rich and corporations are at historic lows. Labor unions now represent a small fraction of workers yet are fighting for economic justice for all. Progressive Democrats of America, which organizes these vigils, has broadened their message to take on this stark reality: www.pdamerica.org/get-active/brown-bag-lunch-vigils/How do we pay for schools, jobs, health, infrastructure, in short, a decent life for all? Their bottom line is unchanged: "We know where to find the money: Stop the wars—now!" Please help us send this message,

On Wednesday noon we had *9* people at Raymond and Holly. The regulars with myself were Ed, Scott, Steve, and Ann. Norm and Pearl from Glendale Peace Vigil live in Pasadena, so are possible new regulars. A nice women who has rsvp'ed at least 3 times for previous vigils but never showed up, did. Another gentleman came up and grabbed a sign, and after introductions when I asked him which list he heard about us on, he said, oh no, he just was driving by on a day off and saw us. We handed out almost all my accumulated assortment of antiwar leaflets.
Too many people on the street think that the troops are coming home from Afghanistan, with Iraq a faded memory altogether. Corrections issued and many inspiring conversations -- everyone wants all the wars to end, when you get them to focus there. The Pasadena group -- established in March 2010 -- will meet for another Brown Bag Lunch Vigil across from Rep. Adam Schiff's office on Wednesday, January 18, from noon to 1 p.m. They have gathered for 22 months in a row although Progressive Democrats of America reduced its sponsorship to bimonthly a year ago. I ran a search on the PDA website for the January vigils but only found listings for those last November, with the event only eight days off. Anyway, here's the main BBLV page: www.pdamerica.org/get-active/brown-bag-lunch-vigils/

I took the day off to go to the Los Angeles County Fair, so on our way there, Anni and I stopped by the corner of Raymond and Holly in Pasadena to join the 31st consecutive monthly Brown Bag Lunch Vigil, held in sight of the eighth floor windows of Rep. Adam Schiff's district office. Roberta, who was beginning a streak of attending four vigils over four days, says this month's turnout of 10 participants might be the best total in the vigil's history. It was great to see the other Pasadena stalwarts again -- Ed, Fran and Anne -- along with Steven, who has come to the Montrose Peace Vigil. We met Paul, a former union organizer and state legislative aide now volunteering with the Progressive Democrats of America, which sponsors the Brown Bag Lunch Vigils nationwide. Vehicle traffic was lighter than I remember from my two previous visits, but the conversations with the folks walking by are always great, thanks to the senior center on the corner and the Metro train stop just a block away. I felt more invested this time with Schiff becoming my Congressman again because of reapportionment. At the end of the vigil, Roberta and Paul delivered a letter signed by all of us and some passersby supporting five bills in the House. The PDA, which drafted the letter, has details on this webpage: www.pdacommunity.org/issues/bblv-mission

Another successful vigil, thanks Anni for posting and for showing up! Another constituent dropping off something at the window in Rep. Schiff's office when Norm and I brought in this month's letter (signed by all 8 of us, and by a passerby) chimed in to support Healthcare NOT Warfare. The receptionist, a bit taken aback, definitely took note. Then on the Gold Line going to my next thing I got into a rousing political conversation with 2 people sitting near me, one of whom was wearing the Healthcare NOT Warfare sticker I had just given him out on the corner. Having forgotten my cell phone the one time I actually needed it, I asked him if I could use his -- he was checking it frequently during our conversation -- when we got to Union Station. He wasn't getting off there, but yet another lady sitting in the other end of the car called out "You can use mine!" She had been listening in, loved our content and was happy to help a forgetful peace activist.

Wednesday, November 21, from noon to 1 p.m.
I'm going! ;D Join us for our Brown Bag Lunch Vigil this Wednesday! If you live in California's 25th, 26, 28th or 31st Congressional Districts, you are receiving this email because you may live in the newly redistricted CA 28 where Adam Schiff will run. I wanted to invite you to our vigil! Once again, at noon, we'll be at the office of Rep. Adam Schiff (RSVP, map and directions here) to remind him and everyone else that PDA has priorities! We are consistent and persistent. Brown Bag Lunch Vigil Wednesday, November 21, from noon to 1 p.m.

"Once again, at noon, we'll be at the office of Rep. Adam Schiff (RSVP, map and directions here) to remind him and everyone else that PDA has priorities! We are consistent and persistent. Brown Bag Lunch Vigil" It is funny to see an email in my name, from the good folks at Progressive Democrats of America. It did the trick this month -- we had I think our best turnout in some months, 10 people. Schiff's staff had already ducked out early for Thanksgiving, so we slipped under their door: our monthly lobbying letter, Ed's fantastic postcard visualizing the steep downside of armed drones, and a quick leaflet I made promoting a visit to The Friends Ctte. on Nat'l Legislation fcnl.org/ to tell Congress to cut the Pentagon's bloated, undefensive, budget.
