Twenty-one persons took part in this Friday's vigil featuring our stand up picnic and fundraiser for the Bradley Manning Support Network, and I'm not counting the many people who just stopped to talk about him and contribute to his legal defense. We raised $310 at my last tally. Five of the 21 participated in a Montrose Peace Vigil for the first time, including two musicians named Matt and Eric, who found out about our event from a Courage to Resist e-mail with a link to our announcement on their website. Roberta put together everything beautifully: she set up a folding table behind a posterboard with Bradley's photo and some of the secrets we learned from him about the wars and our government's conduct in Iraq and Afghanistan. On the table, she offered informational flyers and served water, milk, chocolate milk, watermelon, trail mix, pickles and a variety of delicious sandwiches with the best ingredients on freshly baked bread. What a fabulous presentation -- thank you so much, Roberta! Anni will post photos here this weekend. I didn't get a really great pic of the glorious table, all it's treats and information, too... So without further adieu: And the New Guys who I hope we'll see again:

The sun didn't come out until mid-afternoon this Friday, so the temperature at vigil time was under 70 degrees. The traffic was also much lower than usual, but not the enthusiasm from the carloads of people flashing peace signs, honking and waving. For the first time this month, we had no new participants: - Sept. 2 - 14
- Sept. 9 - 21
- Sept. 16 - 11
Roberta applied needle and thread to her sign bag for an emergency sewing repair at 7 tonight, so we're sure that there will enough daylight for the War Is Over Mending Circle, which we're debuting at next week's vigil -- and organizing in this thread: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=198&page=1

The War Is Over Mending Circle, which debuted on the equinox during Friday's regular Montrose Peace Vigil, was so much fun that we decided to have another Mend-In next week. Three spontaneous participants held signs briefly, and Nancy's friend Christina came to the corner for the first time to join the mending, giving us a fine attendance total despite the absence of recent stalwarts like Louisa, Bruce, Cynthia and Nick: - Sept. 2 - 14
- Sept. 9 - 21
- Sept. 16 - 11
- Sept. 23 - 15
This weekend, I'll write a report and Anni will post photos on this page of the Mending Circle thread: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=198&page=3

Anni and I will post details and photos of the second War Is Over Mending Circle elsewhere on this message board -- on the latest page of the thread devoted to the Mend-Ins -- this weekend: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=198&page=4Big raindrops fell in nearby La Canada on Friday evening, but not on Montrose Peace Vigil. We've enjoyed good weather and beautiful vibes all month -- and three special events boosted turnout on the corner: - Sept. 2 - 14
- Sept. 9 - 21 (Bradley Manning benefit)
- Sept. 16 - 11
- Sept. 23 - 15 (Mending Circle)
- Sept. 30 - 13 (Mending Circle)
Average weekly attendance in September was 15, the highest monthly mark since 17 last October.
