Excellent wind control, Anni. The climate was very comfortable.
Peace Train rolled through Montrose without a hitch and with some fervent approval from the crowds. I think we are keeping peace on the radar for lots of people.
Thanks to Roberta for all of the prep work and worry and inviting and recruiting. Soup and cookies are so powerfully expressive. We should send some to Afghanistan and Washington. We had a great group. It was great to have Glendale with us.
Forrest and I made it back in time to hop on the church float and that was also appreciated by the viewers. They are a kind audience.

The Peace Train wound up leading the second half of the parade. We were told to start marching when the tail lights of the convertibles bearing Glendale's city council members faded into the shopping park from our staging point at Rosemont Avenue a block away. Ironically, we didn't close the gap and come to a stop until we reached the corner of Ocean View Boulevard, where we've gathered every Friday for nearly six years.
I can't say enough about all of the wonderful members of Glendale Peace Vigil, our parade partners -- or the beautiful spectators -- so please give me a few more days. We had a big night!
The city will post its video of the entire parade and we'll provide the link and time of our appearance before the cameras when it does. Meanwhile, Anni took some great photos beforehand that she'll post here.

On behalf of the Hambarsumian family, we were not only happy to participate in the Montrose and Glendale Peace Vigil's Peace Train "float", but especially honored to hold the banner for you all. We don't get out there often on Friday nights, but we are always with you guys in spirit, ready to show our support, and applaud your dedication to peace. Keep up the great work.

Thanks to Jeanne, Roberta, Anni and Edmond for posting about the parade! The view from the rear of the Peace Train at the staging area last Saturday.I could write a paragraph about each of the other 27 participants in the Montrose Christmas Parade -- the beautiful spirit they brought and what they contributed -- activists from Glendale Peace Vigil, Montrose Peace Vigil and Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church who work year round for peace on earth and goodwill toward all. Instead, I'll just mention a few who might read this. Roberta organized everything, dealt with the shopping park association and fed us homemade soups and hot beverages beforehand at her house, just a block from the parade staging area. Jeanne led us in learning two verses and the chorus of Cat Stevens' "Peace Train," which we sang periodically while marching. Engineer Jim steered the Peace Train perfectly. Bill W. made the banner and provided the caboose. And Forrest set the beat throughout the route with his strap-on conga drum, the best innovation this year. I'll post more about the sound and vision of our Peace Train later -- what we could try next year, including ideas some of us already have started to discuss -- if only so I won't forget them next Christmas.

On the Montrose Christmas Parade webpage www.montrosechristmasparade.com/down the page under "2011 Event" are multiple links to articles, vidoes etc. After my little jaunt to the desert I look forward to looking at them, and hearing highlights and reviews on Friday at the corner!

But wait, there's MORE: From left to right; our conductor, Brian; and great Peace Train Passengers, Fiona and Eddie! And Dora making final check before the Peace Train leaves the station.

The International Christian Family Network posted its video of the December 3 parade on Thursday evening: www.icfn.tv/index.php?option=com_hwdvideoshare&task=viewvideo&Itemid=191&video_id=99That link only had 7 views when I found it -- their video of the 2010 parade now has 1859 views. The Montrose Christmas Parade's page also has an embed of the one hour, 35 minute edit. Unlike last year, I could not move the time bar forward, so I had to watch the whole thing as it streams. (I could move back.) Both postings run haltingly on my computer, with some of the worst buffering I've ever experienced. The Peace Train follows the city dignitaries and police at 55:50. We got better coverage than last year!

Victory, after a frustrating morning. The video moved easily through until the last three minutes of the parade. We did get good footage. Something happened to the audio somewhere along the line so that the commentator's offerings were not as clear or loud as in the beginning of the parade. I hung in there for CVUMC's passage and noticed that American Idol had an entry. Strange bedfellows in community building.
Why it stalled in the last three minutes, I'll never know. I didn't see the number of viewers posted. We might be up to 10, same as tonight's showing.
