Ten of our finest stalwarts came to the corner for the first Montrose Peace Vigil of September, where the shade has returned. As have the crowds on the sidewalks. But the counter protesters were absent again, making them 1 and 4 for the past five Fridays. So all of the honks were for us. By the way, a Starbucks just opened on their corner, putting the chain's outdoor tables six feet from their patch of grass. Since last October, we have posted all Department of Defense press releases announcing each week's military deaths at www.defense.gov/releases during our vigils. Everybody is welcome to register on this message board to view this PDF attachment -- and we would love to see you on the corner as well: Attachments:

Hi Peaceniks,
September 21 is the International Prayer for Peace Day. And it's on a Friday. anni, how do you feel about bringing the green carpet and setting aside some time to imagine peace? Maybe if people all over the world imagine at the same time, we'll make some progress.

What a great idea, Jeanne. The fake grass will be in the car, if it's not already! Think we could be better seen on one of the three grassy knolls?

Attendance at this Friday's Montrose Peace Vigil matched last week's total of ten, despite the heat. Eight regular participants were joined by three elementary school girls selling candy to raise money for their school -- although only one of them held a sign -- and later by a woman visiting from Florida, who stopped and displayed a big peace symbol while waiting for her ride to arrive. As always, we posted our weekly compilation of the Department of Defense's death announcements: Attachments:

We had a good vigil last night - Nancy, Marcel, Bill and I got lots of positive feedback from the drivers and pedestrians going by Broadway & Brand. Last week it was only Nancy, Henry and Marcel - we took the night off to see Crosby, Stills & Nash at the Greek.
Next week is the 10th anniversary of the Glendale Peace Vigil - no special plans for a celebration but it is a milestone.

Next week is the 10th anniversary of the Glendale Peace Vigil - no special plans for a celebration but it is a milestone. I feel drawn to mark Glendale's 10th along with you, as Glendale vigil people have so often turned out to join in activities up here in Montrose. (Prime example, the Peace Train in the Montrose Christmas Parade, which is Saturday Dec. 1st this year -- mark your calendars. Riders welcome to meet me in Montrose, bop down there at 4:45 for 15 minutes, and be back up at our corner by 5:30!!!
