Let's meet up at 4:30 in the parking lot back of Faye's, AKA where Jeanne parks. This will be fun! Fun and good. I'll be there. Don't anyone take my parking space. ; )

Roberta, Jeanne and Anni of Montrose Peace Vigil did indeed go to the corner of Broadway and Brand in Glendale to help kick off the tenth anniversary of Glendale Peace Vigil. Back in September 2002, the Bush Administration had just started selling an invasion of Iraq and Congress had yet to authorize that. This Friday, Glendale Peace Vigil attracted 11 participants in just the first 15 minutes. One has to wonder: Does Glendale have the longest running weekly vigil in the U.S.? This Friday was also the International Day of Prayer for Peace, long promoted by the World Council of Churches and this year observed for the first time on the corner of Ocean View and Honolulu in Montrose. Jeanne, Paige, Wendy, Nancy, Roberta and Anni rolled out the Astroturf on one of the grassy areas for meditation and discussion. Spontaneously joining the rest of us in holding signs along the curb were Rebecca and her daughter Sophia. Our attendance so far this month: - Sept. 7 -10
- Sept. 14 - 10
- Sept. 21 - 12
For almost a full year now, Anni and I have posted a printout of the past week's death announcements by the Department of Defense during the vigil. We live for zero. Instead, we lament seven more lives lost: Attachments:

Thanks to the Montrose vigilers who joined us for our 10th anniversary yesterday. Very happy to see Norm and Pearl too, who have been vigiling in Pasadena with Occupy Pasadena. We had one of the biggest turnouts this year - a couple more people joined us after the Montrose contingent went to their own vigil. Great responses from the passers by including a young woman from Peace Action West.
Happy Autumnal Equinox!

Some of us in the past have found it meaningful to attend some interfaith peace activities. There is one coming up in October at the Iman Cultural Center in LA. 4 PM. Their calling it preemptive peacemaking and will be celebrating a new peacemaking curriculum. preemptiveprayerserviceforpeace.eventbrite.com/Anyone care to go?

I would love to be counted among the fortunate attendees. Sadly, Brian will probably have to work that day. Dr. Maher Hathout is one of our all time favorites. I may have to take notes so I can be accurate in my sharing with the Brian. Looks to be an uplifting gathering!

I had a suspiciously empty calendar that afternoon so I signed up! Will there be a Methodistmobile to WLA? Some of us in the past have found it meaningful to attend some interfaith peace activities. The shopping park association and the city wrapped all of the tree trunks with strands of little orange lights, like they do with the white LED bulbs for Christmas, no doubt to promote their Halloween event. It was almost dark by the end of this Friday's Montrose Peace Vigil, with five more weeks left before the end of Daylight Savings Time. And Roberta is already talking about our third annual entry in the Montrose Christmas Parade. That's only two months away. Meanwhile, here are September's attendance figures: - Sept. 7 -10
- Sept. 14 - 10
- Sept. 21 - 12
- Sept. 28 - 9
The average for the month was 10 participants, the same as August and July. Last September, when we held two Mending Circles and a picnic fundraiser for Bradley Manning on the corner, the average was 15. We only printed one page to publicly post the two death announcements this week by the Department of Defense during the vigil. The second page of the attachment is the Army's release of August's suicide data: Attachments:

Glendale Peace Vigil had 6 attendees last night - Moe, Marcel, Nancy, Henry, Bill and me. That's a good turnout for us lately!
There were lots of friendly passers by and no negative comments at all.
