A North East Los Angeles Radical Neighbors for Peace through Justice vigil last May. Can't get enough protest time on Friday evenings at Montrose Peace Vigil? Like to demonstrate in the winter where everybody can read your sign -- in the daylight? Would you enjoy a steady stream of joyous honking and waving people driving through the intersection of Colorado and Eagle Rock boulevards? Then come to the NELA vigil, currently happening most Saturdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Anni and I have gone to Eagle Rock as often as we can since spring, but Roberta has attended for years along with Norm and Pearl, other Montrose Peace Vigil stalwarts. You may already know NELA vigil founders Nina and Ross, who marched twice with our Peace Train in the Montrose Christmas Parade. We've met many more wonderful people there, some of whom started protesting in Eagle Rock and Highland Park before the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2002. There's always a great vibe on that corner. Somehow, Yahoo's software has proven resistant so far to all attempts to correct the vigil times -- you can rely on my information above -- but the rest of this Yahoo Groups page established in 2003 is good: groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NELA_peace/info

A good turn-out for the Eagle Rock Vigil only two days after Xmas. Much waving and lots of honks for support.

Absolutely, Ross. And thank you for putting that photo on another website.
Everybody is always welcome to repost any words or images on the Montrose Peace Vigil message board in other places on the Internets.

Would you appreciate a steady stream of joyous honking and waving people driving through the intersection of Colorado and Eagle Rock boulevards? Then come to the NELA vigil, currently happening most Saturdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Now with Daylight Saving Time, the Eagle Rock vigil takes place from 4 to 6 p.m., mostly in the shade of a big gas station sign. Check out the price of gas in the photo above if you were thinking it's high this May -- a gallon cost 50 cents more a year ago. But it's still early in the month. Anyway, I'm back to extol the virtues of NELA's vigil. Everybody in that photo plus Roberta still shows up in Eagle Rock most Saturdays, and over the months many others have come too. I'm the only one who exclusively protests war -- other issues include climate change, human rights and economic justice. Nina often sets up an ironing board with flyers offering information or promoting upcoming events. You'll also enjoy the people, the neighborhood and, afterwards if you like, the restaurants of Eagle Rock. And if you need gas, please patronize our friends who run the Shell station.
