We were so happy to have Bert Newton join the Peace Train for a second year. He's the organizer of the Palm Sunday Peace Parade that will be in it's 13th or 14th year in March 2016. Roberta, anni, Brian, Edmond, and Pastor Steve or Paige have walked in it for about half of those years. It's meant to reenact Jesus' walk into Jerusalem, which was a bit of street theater, mocking Roman Empire and its worldly power. The parade starts in a humble neighborhood north of the 210 and ends at the Paseo on Colorado where we gather and sing and here about ways to work together to lessen oppression. It's very inspiring to be among the 200 peaceniks. This year's theme will be about refuges.
Last year MPV was a sponsor and we would like to repeat that. That requires a total of $150. We have some donors already. If any of you would like to chip in, please let me know. If you want a tax deduction, you can make a check out to Pasadena Mennonite Church. I'll gather the donations and mail them.
I hope you'll consider marching Sunday afternoon on March 20th.

Jeanne leads the Litany of Resistance to Violence after the 2013 Palm Sunday Peace Parade. Thank you for starting this thread, Jeanne!
The webpage for the Palm Sunday Peace Parade last March is still online. Click on the link below. While you're there, scroll down for a great photo showing just Roberta and Jeanne on the bottom right marching in the parade several years ago.

Dear Friends, Here’s a great opportunity for you to observe Palm Sunday with historical and theological integrity. Be a part of a procession modeling Jesus’ march into Jerusalem, expressing God’s truth to worldly powers. This year’s focus is on the plight of the immigrant, a Biblical theme that rings loud and true today. Please see flyers below and plan on joining in the family friendly walk
on March 20th, at 3:00 PM at the Reformation Church 570 Orange Grove Blvd. in Pasadena.

I'm sure sorry I didn't hang on to one of the flyers I was given at the church last year. It was a brief history of communist communities/groups going back at least 2000 years. (I particularly remember reading about farmers in medieval Europe form a co-op; maybe it was in the renaissance.) I meant to keep it for later reading, but I misplaced it.

The Palm Sunday Peace Parade's Facebook page has official information for this year's event, along with great videos and photos of previous parades as you scroll down. I know because I saw it on Anni's computer. Unfortunately, you have to be registered with Facebook to view this link: www.facebook.com/PeaceParades/Montrose Peace Vigil is returning as one of the 11 parade sponsors on March 20.

Message board members Nancy and Oss Rae holding signs at last year's Palm Sunday Peace Parade. Here is what's printed on the reverse side of the flyer that Anni posted above for the parade that starts at 3 p.m. this Sunday, March 20:

Perfect weather, beautiful people and a loving spirit in motion -- I'm always invigorated by the Palm Sunday Peace Parade.
Attendance appeared to be about half of the previous Palm Sundays, without participants from the defunct Peace and Justice Academy and Pasadena area activists like the Occupy movement a few years ago and those protesting a killing of a local youth by police last year. Still, I'd estimate that at least 100 folks marched. Members of Montrose Peace Vigil and Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church made up a huge chunk of the total: Jeanne, Nancy, Jim, Norm, Pearl, Pastor Steve, Edmond and his girls, Kim and her boys, Janine with two more churchgoers, Anni and me. We ran into our old friend Irena from the Glendale Peace Vigil as well.

I'm sorry too that I didn't save that flyer by the International Communist Workers' Party. This year, someone handed out copies of this one about celebrating May Day at each aisle in the church: MayDay16.pdf (153.19 KB)

Now that I know the name of the group that made that flyer, I can search their website on that subject!! And if that doesn't work, I could try contacting someone from there and see if they still have that old flyer around. (Even our tiny Eagle Rock vigil has files of old flyers.)
