Greetings, Friends and Neighbors,
If you were fortunate enough to have been present at last year’s Bible Cabaret, you will be thrilled to know that Reverend Jane Voigts will be returning to Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church with her uniquely inspired comedy revue. Some say that Christians who aspire to living up to Gospel ideals should have a Bible in one hand and a newspaper in the other. Rev. Jane does that and somehow manages to have a rubber chicken in another hand. In these times when politicians tout their “Christian Credentials,” we are skeptical of the whole package and are tempted to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Rev. Jane is one who will help us see the baby in that murky gray and will inspire us to save and nurture that baby, that focus of hope, love, and justice. Sounds like just what we need.
So please mark your calendars for Friday, March 3rd, 7:30 PM (doors open at 7) in the Fellowship Hall at Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, 2700 Montrose Ave, Montrose. Jane’s monologues will be well complemented by sets from the CVUMC Band featuring Ricky Cosentino, led by Barb Catlin Bergeron - musicians whose passion is matched by their professional chops. You may even be asked to sing along!
We are suggesting a $20 donation at the door for all of this meaningful entertainment and community engagement. Refreshments will be served.
This memorable evening is sponsored by Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, The Montrose Peace Vigil And Read And Practice Peacemaking. We look forward to seeing you on the 3rd.
Peace, Jeanne L.

Hi Friends,
Here's a reminder about the Bible Cabaret coming to CVUMC this Friday night. Since you last saw her, Jane has been working hard - first for Bernie, then Hillary, and showing up at numerous marches and local Iowa political actions. It's amazing that she keeps her brilliant sense of humor through it all. The cabaret will include a special skit on Biblical marriage, featuring some local actors that you may recognize. It's a bit risque, but straight from the Bible. ; ) Barb and Ricky will be doing music and I think we'll be asked to sing along. So please come and laugh along.
If you're able to contribute some finger foods for refreshments, we'll be grateful.
Peace and Humor,
Jeanne

Jane Voigts, at left, with Jeanne at the Montrose Peace Vigil on April 24, 2015. Jane stopped by the corner to demonstrate with us on her way to the church to get ready to perform "The Bible Cabaret" the last time she was in town -- how cool is that? Here's part of the post I wrote after her show: ...Both Jane and her guest Betsy Salkind, who gave us a brilliant set, are veteran stand up comics -- to get laughs from an audience that isn't drinking is just one tribute to their artistry. The laughs came with some wisdom about civil disobedience. Jane applied her knowledge of ancient culture from her ordination as a minister to an audience participation sketch showing how turning the other cheek would have gone down in Jesus' time. I had never thought about how humiliating striking the second time could be physically and psychologically for the man swinging the arm until it was actually demonstrated before me. Blessed are the peacemakers and the laugh makers, and Jane is both of them. Now that we know how wonderful Jane can be, Anni and I can hardly wait to see her again this Friday, March 3. Jane's website is also promoting her appearance at Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church in Montrose, California: janevoigts.com/the-bible-cabaret-a-music-and-comedy-revue/
