A vigil in May 2014 by the North East Los Angeles Radical Neighbors for Peace through Justice.
Three of the people in that photo started protesting U.S. military action in Iraq four months before we invaded in March 2003. They still occupy the southwest corner of Colorado and Eagle Rock Boulevards most Saturdays from 4 to 6 p.m., enjoying a steady stream of joyous honking and waving people driving through the intersection, and talking with some of the passing pedestrians under the shade of the big gas station sign. We advertise all issues related to peace and justice.
Unlike Montrose Peace Vigil, the NELA vigil in Eagle Rock does not take place every week. But we hope to see you on the corner sometime. Feel free to post a Quick Reply in the space below if you have any questions, and someone will answer. Guests are always welcome to post on this message board.

The vigil in early 2003 at a previous location, Eagle Rock Boulevard and Verdugo Road. Next November, the Eagle Rock vigil will mark its 15th anniversary. A decade ago, our friend Oss Rae wrote a wonderful retrospective on the vigil's first five years for the Los Angeles Indymedia site -- scroll down for more photos from the period: la.indymedia.org/news/2007/12/211651.php

The first 24-hour Eagle Rock vigil in August 2013. The stalwarts of the Eagle Rock peace vigil will occupy the southwest corner of Eagle Rock and Colorado Boulevards in Eagle Rock for 24 hours, from 2 p.m. Saturday, August 12, to 2 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017 -- their fifth annual 24-hour vigil. This is the link to the event's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/events/1295997803842950/Some of the folks at last year's 24-hour vigil in October.

The Eagle Rock vigil as seen on the Saturday before Halloween. Photo by Oss Rae.
Can't get enough protest time on Friday evenings at Montrose Peace Vigil? Would you like to demonstrate in the winter where everybody can read your sign -- in the daylight? Then come to one of the vigils at the intersection of Colorado and Eagle Rock Boulevards -- next to the recently refurbished Shell station -- on Saturdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m., an hour earlier now that Daylight Saving Time is over.
November 2017 is the 15th anniversary of the NELA Rad vigils.

A couple of years ago Flo had to retire from our Saturday Peace Vigils in Eagle Rock. She had been one of its founding members. Last Saturday we all got together for 'Luncheon with Flo' at the Astro Cafe in Silverlake. What a wonderful time...and the fun didn't stop there. We all then drove to the Eagle Rock Vigil, including Flo...and stood for Peace.

Flo used to come by the Population Connection booth to encourage us when we tabled with Dick Seeley at various Pasadena events. She's quite an activist!

A couple of times I drove down to the Los Angeles Air Force Base —yes there is one — to protest a launch of an ICBM test, and there would be Flo!

She could also been seen fighting to save and restore the Southwest Museum of the American Indian. You can see her here (eighth photo down): la.indymedia.org/news/2010/02/234814.php. Once I ran into her at a demo. in front of the federal building in downtown L.A. I'm trying to remember what the occasion was. It was sometime between 2008 and 2011, I think.
