Greetings, Friends and Neighbors,
We will be starting 2018 with another informative, thought provoking film. Public safety, mass shootings, and unlimited rights to own guns were very much in the news last year and the gaping controversy is nowhere near resolved. Our film for Friday, January 12th offers a ray of hope for bridging the gap between opposing sides of the debate. “The Armor of Light” shows us Rob Schenck, a conservative pastor with a history in the volatile anti abortion movement of the 1990’s, as he explains his coming to understand that insistence on unlimited gun ownership rights is not consistent with a world view that considers the sanctity of life to be paramount. Schenck has created new adversaries among his tribe and has forged new, unlikely partnerships.Rev, Schenck shows courage in questioning the often oversimplified, unconditional interpretation of second Amendment rights. We hope you’ll come watch the documentary with us and stay for a respectful conversation about the difficult complexities of the issues of faith, freedom, self defense, and safety. The doors at Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, 2700 Montrose Ave.,will open at 7 for a 7:30 start. We’ll be downstairs in Fellowship Hall and refreshments will be served.

"The Armor of Light" scores a 96 on Rotten Tomato's Tomatometer with an Audience Score of 64 percent liking the documentary. Runtime is 88 minutes. Everyone is welcome this Friday, January 12, to the free screening in Fellowship Hall -- downstairs from the sanctuary, accessible in the back of the building from the parking lot -- with its couches, armchairs and tables with folding chairs spread out in front of the big screen in a room with good acoustics.
