For the past six months, Katherine Terrien has performed most Friday evenings on the northwest corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in Montrose, not far from Montrose Peace Vigil. With her guitar, excellent PA system and shining talent, Katherine has garnered many fans locally singing her own songs and well chosen covers.
Katherine posted this clip on her You Tube channel just before we saw her last Friday -- her rendition of the 1982 Crosby, Stills and Nash hit single "Southern Cross" -- dedicated to her dad for his birthday:

Since I started this thread, Katherine has moved her sound system, instruments and overflowing tip jar from the wall in front of the frozen yogurt shop. Now she sings and plays next to Montrose Peace Vigil by the grass on Friday evenings. We miss her whenever she's absent for two or three weeks at a time traveling to her hometown in Washington state, to Europe and elsewhere. Our friend Mike Morgan, the man who takes care of the Vietnam War memorial, came to the corner last Friday with an armload of Crescenta Valley Weeklys. The newspaper is conducting its annual survey of the finest local people and establishments, and Mike's campaigning for Katherine Terrien to be named The Finest in Entertainment in the Other category. I wrote "Montrose Street Performer, Fridays" beneath her name to identify her to the newspaper's staff. You can pick up a copy with the full page ballot before the deadline of May 3, or click on this link to the CV Weekly's webpage to vote online: www.crescentavalleyweekly.com/the-finest/Anni and I used the paper ballot. You need to mark at least ten choices to qualify. I thought that it was going to be hard to name ten until Mike showed me his ballot. For instance, Schreiner's is the best deli anywhere, not just Montrose. And I've since learned that Sunland-Tujunga is part of the Crescenta Valley Weekly's circulation area, so now I have a lot more than ten nominees. Here's Katherine performing her original song "The Put Down" in a video that she made and posted on You Tube last year.

Anni and I were driving west on Honolulu Avenue Saturday around 6 when we saw Katherine Terrien setting up to busk next to the frozen yogurt shop. We stopped and I asked if she'll be back on the corner during next Friday's Montrose Peace Vigil. But July 19 also happens to be Katherine's birthday. That night, Katherine will perform for friends and fans at a popular wine shop and tasting room in Manhattan Beach. She invites Montrose Peace Vigil regulars to come -- Katherine says she will be onstage from 7 until 10 p.m., three hours after the vigil ends. Here's the MBwine website: mbwineco.com/

After an absence of eight months because of the pandemic, Katherine returned to Montrose to perform alongside the Montrose Peace Vigil again on October 23, 2020. Thanks to her great PA system, her voice carried beautifully despite wearing a mask. Katherine said that she's started live streaming her performances on Instagram, Facebook and You Tube on Monday evenings, and she's playing requests. This link to the Community page on her You Tube channel has the concert announcements and the links to her Instagram and Facebook accounts: www.youtube.com/c/KatherineTerrien/community

Seven of the 14 regulars at last Friday's vigil pose with Katherine and her ukulele.
It's been nearly three years since Katherine Terrien first came to the corner on Friday evenings and it wasn't until last week that I realized that we had never taken a photo of ourselves with her. We've all come to love Katherine dearly. I can't say that we are her biggest fans after witnessing all of the people who have stopped to listen to her for several songs -- or come especially to hear her. Most of the time during the Montrose Peace Vigils, we're talking to each other and passersby or waving and shouting at people in vehicles, yet we have always been lifted by her music and her spirit.
Everybody missed Katherine when street performances weren't allowed for months because of the pandemic. Since she returned with a new Glendale city permit, other musicians have discovered the excellent busking opportunities on the northwest corner of Ocean View and Honolulu. One Friday recently, Katherine drove from Hollywood only to find another singer-guitarist with a much louder sound system already set up. Instead of playing somewhere else, she stayed for an hour and held a peace sign during the vigil. I'm happy to report that Katherine has made arrangements to trade Fridays with him so we'll get to enjoy her regularly again.
