We’re back! Summer adventures were wonderful and we are ready to gather with you for some inspiring films.
Our First offering will be on Friday, September 14th. “The Road To Edmond” is getting a lot of attention because it offers a portrait of an open and compassionate faith, especially for LGBTQ youth who have not been accepted in more conservative churches.
Religious News Service says of the film: "Filmed in Oklahoma and Colorado, The Road to Edmond is based on real-life stories emerging from evangelical churches across the nation as they hold a traditional viewpoint on heaven, hell, and homosexuality while their youth pastors are helping young people navigate questions about same-sex attraction and who ends up in heaven.” The road trip the title refers to is taken by a youth pastor who has been warned by church elders that he is too accepting of one of his youth that has just come out. Yes, that boggles our minds, that a follower of Jesus is in trouble for being too accepting. Here’s the official trailer:
All are welcome to come watch “The Road To Edmond.” It promises to be both entertaining and provocative. We’ll be downstairs in the Fellowship Hall of Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church 2700 Montrose Ave. Doors open at 7. Film at 7:30. Refreshments will be served and there will be time for good conversations after the film.
Some of you have asked for ways you can contribute to these gatherings. If you would like to bring a few canned goods for us to contribute to The Bailey Human Care Center in Tujunga, we’ll be very grateful. They are giving food to people in need every week and they can always use more. Thanks and Peace, Jeanne L.
