Greetings, Friends, In keeping with our aim to provide relevant, thought provoking, conversation inducing films for our friends and neighbors to watch together, Gather, Inspire, Act has chosen “Jackson’ for Friday, October 12th.
"Jackson is an intimate, unprecedented look at the lives of three women caught up in the complex issues surrounding abortion access. Set against the backdrop of the fight to close the last abortion clinic in Mississippi, Jackson captures the essential and hard truth of the lives at the center of the debate over reproductive healthcare in America."
Pathos says that it is "simultaneously fierce and kind in its depiction of two sides of a desperate crisis and in the questions that it asks and (implicitly) answers."
The topic of women’s reproductive rights has been used as a wedge to divide the people of this country in ways that have spilled over into almost every facet of public discourse. That divide over the issue has driven the political dysfunction that we are now in the midst of. so we think it would be good to hear and see the stories of people personally involved. The work of peacemaking includes listening to those with whom we don’t agree. The director Maise Crow has done just that and we want to learn from her inquiry.
So come gather with us on: Friday, October 12th at Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, 2700 Montrose Ave., Montrose. Doors open at 7, film at 7:30. Refreshments will be served and we will share our thoughts in conversation after the film. I hope to see you then. Peace, Jeanne L.

This month, "Jackson" won an Emmy for Outstanding Social Issue Documentary at the academy's 39th annual News and Documentary awards ceremony in New York. Runtime is 92 minutes.
Everybody is welcome at the free screening this Friday downstairs at the church -- on the floor below the sanctuary -- with its comfortable couches and armchairs as well as tables with folding chairs, all spread out in front of a big screen. You can enter Fellowship Hall through the gate on the left side of the building, or just walk through the kitchen door in the back. There's always plenty of parking available in the church's lot.

There was a good turnout for the film. Yoshio came and distributed copies of Change Links. A woman named Tara saw the listing in the CV Weekly. It was great to have Pastor Paige there, too. The film did a good job of inviting pro lifers, pro choicers, and a young woman caught in the system to open up and reveal themselves. We have so many struggles on so many fronts right now. Time spent together learning and caring gives me strength to carry on and stay in the long game.

Thanks for organizing the event. It was so good to visit with folks we hadn't seen in a while. Yoshio arrived a few seconds after I had mentioned Change Links to Tara and the couple next to her. He handed out the newspapers as though we'd arranged it. Mother nature has great timing too, with the lightning, thunder and glorious rain during the film. One and a half rain barrels of our rain filled up by this morning.

One and a half rain barrels of our rain filled up by this morning. I collected a lot of rain water, too. A lot of it I gave to an oak that had a hard time during the hot summer. The rest I gave to an orange tree.

Sorry I missed it. I had some stuff I had to deal with. Looks like a good movie to see with other people.
