Vigil regular Justeen Ward brought Andy Corwin and his acoustic guitar to last Friday's Montrose Peace Vigil to perform a brief set of songs for us and passersby on the corner, drawing a good audience on a chilly evening. They weren't there to promote their upcoming appearances at The Coffee Gallery in Altadena on Friday, March 1 -- Andy as a member of The Limeliters with Justeen of the Honey-Lulus as the opening act -- so let me do it instead, first by quoting Justeen's press release for a gig of theirs in 2017: Call The Coffee Gallery Backstage to reserve your seats at (626) 798-6236 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. The address is 2029 N. Lake Ave., Altadena, CA 91001. The price is $20 but you don't pay until you get there, cash or check only. Here is the link to the event's webpage, with bios of the current members of The Limeliters: www.coffeegallery.com/blog/03-02-19-americana-folk-band-the-limeliters.htmlIn this clip on You Tube, Justeen appears in January 2018 with Andy at The Coffee Gallery -- where they were billed as Daddio and Angel -- singing "You Might Be a Babyboomer If..."

It was certainly a well-done interlude in our good, steady musical presence, Katherine, who graciously gave over her audio set-up for them. Iām sure she gets a good, steady flow back from the MPV into her tip jar! This great You Tube video -- a professionally made short montage of a Limeliters performance at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in 2015 -- was just posted two months ago.
Showtime this Friday is actually 8 p.m., which means that Anni and I can leave Montrose Peace Vigil at 7 and make it to Altadena in plenty of time to see the opening act, The Honey-Lulus!

When Anni and I went to the Palm Sunday Peace Parade, we knew we would have to endure another sing along of "If I Had a Hammer." I would always tell Anni, "If you have a hammer, hit me over the head with it." I'd grown weary of the middle of the road rendition by Peter, Paul and Mary that everybody knows. But the original Limeliters recorded "The Hammer Song" in 1959 with a Beat sound. Now I love it again.
Friday evening at the Coffee Gallery Backstage, I became a fan of The Limeliters, especially this iteration led by Andy Corwin, seen at an earlier show in Austin in the video above. I'll start another thread on the Montrose Peace Vigil message board -- which hammers in the mornings as well as in the evenings -- to follow their current doings.
