From Code Pink: Breaking news: The governments of Venezuela and Turkey have agreed to sign a Protecting Power Agreement that would allow the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington DC to be under the charge of the Turkish government. To be operative, however, it must be approved by the State Department. Please sign this petition urging the State Department to give its approval.

You probably heard that Rep. Barbara Lee's amendment to repeal the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force in the annual defense spending bill was approved by the House Appropriations Committee. When that committee was controlled by Republicans last year, it approved another AUMF repeal and members of both parties stood to applaud Rep. Lee, remember? She had been the only member of the House to vote against the AUMF in 2001. Paul Ryan prevented the amendment from reaching the House floor. Now Nancy Pelosi is Speaker of the House, and the Friends Committee on National Legislation has a customizable letter to send to your representative: cqrcengage.com/fcnl/app/write-a-letter?8&engagementId=497477&utm_campaign=lam&utm_medium=email&utm_source=akBecause Adam Schiff is my representative, I knocked my letter down to one paragraph: "I was so pleased to see that the Defense Appropriations bill includes language that will repeal the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force. As you did last year, please take every measure that you can to ensure that Barbara Lee's language remains in the bill and is approved by the House."

From my email, Jessica at Move to Amend’s follow-up to our meeting today with Schiff district rep Mike Aguilera. She isn’t hopeful that Schiff will abandon his own weaker amendment, but who knows what could happen if YOU make the call )) The National Campaign to End Corporate Personhood and Demand Real Democracy! Move to Amend Dear Roberta, Today I went with a few constituents to meet with a staffer at Adam Schiff's office in Burbank. We explained to him that Schiff's proposed amendment falls short -- it does not address corporate constitutional rights and does not abolish money as protected speech under the 1st amendment. We delivered the names of over 2,000 constituents who have signed our petition and we asked him to consider a more bold solution than just overturning Citizen's United. We had a good meeting but now we need your help! Will you take five minutes to make two phone calls before the end of the day on Friday? Please call Schiff's district and DC office to ask him to co-sponsor House Joint Resolution 48, the We The People Amendment. The more constituents who call, the more power our message has. It'll only take five minutes to make both calls. Schiff's DC office: (202) 225-4176 Schiff's District office: (818) 450-2900 Let's make sure he knows what we want him to do! Thank you for making your voice heard! Jessica Munger Program Director, Move to Amend Coalition MoveToAmend.org(916) 318-8040 End Corporate Rule. Legalize Democracy. Move to Amend.
