About ten years ago our Read and Practice Peacemaking (RAPP) read Chris Hedges’ Empire Of Illusion. He’s a brilliant observer of culture and a powerful writer. He and NYT parted ways when he came out against the wars. He now writes for Truthdig. He’s on a tour Fuji’s most recent book and will be speaking in Claremont next Sunday. I’m going with Paige and a few others. Anyone interested?

The Rev. Hedges is a Pulitzer-Prize winning former war correspondent for the New York Times, graduate of Harvard Divinity School, and Presbyterian minister. He has taught at Princeton University and Columbia University and teaches college credit courses in the New Jersey prison system.
His latest book and his presentation at the event are entitled America:the Farewell Tour. He calls attention to signs of the decline of democratic culture and institutions. Hedges is unsparing in his critique of America empire and urgent in his prophetic call to action.
He is a social critic with rare depth of knowledge and a passion for a better world.
Save the date!
Sunday, November 24th, 7 p.m. Claremont Presbyterian Church
Following the October event with Chris Hedges, Agenda for a Prophetic Faith will feature in November Dr. Ellen Brown. Dr. Brown is founder and president of the Public Banking Institute. Her topic: Why We Need Public Banking.
She provides a fresh and challenging perspective on our financial institutions, envisioning a viable, egalitarian option to the domination of Wall Street and the banks that are commonly dubbed "too big to fail."

Brian's watched a lot of videos featuring Chris Hedges. This 17 minute segment of a 2013 online TV interview features Hedges talking about his father's influence, his long career as a foreign correspondent and how poverty in America motivated him -- just some of the topics:
