From Greenpeace: Tell the Senate: Vote YES on HEROES - Save the US Postal Service!
The House passed the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act, legislation that would improve working conditions for Essential Worker with personal protection equipment and paid sick leave; provide needed economic relief for families; and safeguard our right to a more healthy and functioning democracy by explicitly providing funding to save the USPS –– ultimately paving the way for infrastructure like national vote-by-mail.
As the pandemic continues to ravage communities, voters are looking ahead trepidatiously, worrying that their opportunity to cast a ballot is in jeopardy. But if we can achieve bipartisan support for this robust legislation, that puts people first, you can be assured that our policy leaders will work to provide voters with safer access to the ballot.
The HEROES Act would:
Make vote-by-mail available to all voters;
Require states to provide two weeks of early voting;
Require absentee ballot access online;
Mandate same-day registration;
And provide the necessary funding to support the institution that would enact the entire process: the United States Postal Service.
We are building solidarity across movements, and right now we have a chance at saving one of America's most beloved institutions.
Tell your Senators to vote YES and pass this crucial legislation for people, for jobs, for safety, and a more healthy and people-powered democracy.
