As I post, the No's have 65 percent statewide with 70 percent of the precincts reporting. In L.A. County so far, it's 73 percent against the recall.
After the first week of counting, the statewide No tally is 63 percent, and the L.A. County landslide has slipped to 71 percent. Eleven million ballots have been counted so far with an estimated two million remaining. The Secretary of State's deadline to certify the election is October 22, but I expect most of the unprocessed ballots will be counted within the next two weeks. I'm besotted with the Los Angeles Times' interactive map that shows last Wednesday's tallies in every precinct. My precinct, which stretches east from my home to take in pricier newer houses as well as the historic canyon properties, voted 57 percent No, a tan color on the map. Lighter shades of brown for the lower mid-50's mark the two precincts going south to the 210 freeway. The only blue precincts nearby are in La Tuna Canyon and Shadow Hills, but because the initial reporting has them as Yes in the low 50's, the balance could tip when more mail in ballots are counted. North of the freeway, the foothills are a quilt of light brown hues between the dark brown precincts in Pacoima and Pasadena with No percentages in the 70's and 80's.
