YipppeeeeKayohKayah! Welcome to our board, too, skipper! So nice you're here! Nice to know you two are as fanatical as I. See you at the Canyon! Do you have dinner reservations? I have bee there many times. I will find you! Yup...we like those comfy chairs and the proximity to the stage. We were really up close and personal with one of our faves, Ian Hunter. Do you have the reservations? about dinner?

Hey there Anni, Thanks for having me aboard your board! Love what you and Brian have done with the Peace place! I forgot that you live in Tujunga. I must have mentioned to you that I bought my first house there and lived there from 1998 to 2004. On the back of my sailboat it reads: "Pride Of Cucamonga" Tujunga No I did not get dinner reservations. Just crossing my fingers that my boss will let me leave early. I have got pretty good at wandering around that place and usually find a open seat or tow in a good spot. Blue Oyster Cult is one thing though, but Ray most likely be a different story. It's a long drive for me from San Pedro now. That's why I did not make reservations. I think the doors open at 7pm. Gonna try and be there before then! -Skipper Jeff

I'd leave the house early to watch the sunrise from the top (the Vortex?) before picking up the future prison population from Vogel Flats. We love our old funky place on Pinyon Ave. close to Haines Cyn. and Apperson. Where abouts was your abode? And what the heck does "Pride Of Cucamonga" Tujungamean???

Skipper Jeff, I'm so glad to see you on board after talking to you at most if not all of Ray's concerts in L.A. during the past decade. I wish this one wasn't on a Thursday night in Agoura Hills with my job in Burbank -- and, man, I do not envy your drive on the 405 from San Pedro. We've only been to the Canyon Club twice. When we saw the Tubes, we roamed the cavernous back of the room. (What's the capacity of that venue anyway?) For Ian Hunter three years ago, I rested an ale and my notebook for the setlist on a huge table and my ass in a high-backed armchair near the stage -- when I wasn't standing, screaming and applauding -- so I hope to repeat that experience this March 25. Of course, tickets for his show at the Grove of Anaheim the night before are still on sale, but Anni and I could never pull that off. Did you consider going? I notice that the gig at the House of Blues in San Diego on March 27 was canceled, making our show the last of Ray's tour. In case you don't know about it, this is the best and oldest resource on the Web about the Kinks: www.kindakinks.net/And Happy Birthday!

Wow! Thanks for posting the answer and that link to the Phil Lesh video, Sharon. My only guess about Skipper's reference had been the running "Cucamonga" gag on the Jack Benny radio show. I'd forgotten about the "Mars Hotel" album, despite my head being stuck in 1974 and the ton of Dead LP's and 8-tracks we sold in Montrose back then. A cursory Google search says the song was never played live by them. Anni told me that Skipper reported a fantastic weekend on Facebook. So nice of Ray Davies to be working his way west to celebrate both of their birthdays on the Left Coast, however belatedly, next week.

Okay, a little late in getting back to you all. Haven't been checking in every day. To answer some questions: Yes the name of my boat is "Pride of Cucamonga" from the Dead song. When I first heard that song when I was 17, I said to myself If I ever got my own sail boat I would name her that. I was living in Tujunga at the time, so that was the name of the hailing port I put under the sign on the transom. It also has a ring to it. "Pride of Cucamonga, Tujunga"! Tunjunga and Cucamonga are both local Native American words as well. Yes I was a Dead Head for many years. I guess I still am, but the Tribes just not the same with out Jerry. My old house is at the corner of Silverton & Day streets on Silverton. I wept when I sold that house. I miss living there. It was so quiet. San Pedro is a really interesting old port town, but pretty urban and noisy. At least I am close to my boat and I sail to Catalina often where there are many peaceful coves to anchor in. Yes Brian, I have known about www.kindakinks.net/ for many years now. Great resource. I think the capacity of the Canyon Club is a little over 1,000. I as well am a little stressed about the Thursday night gig because I have to work as well. I am taking the day after off. I am also hoping to go see Hugh Cornwell from the Stranglers play on Saturday the 27th at Alex's Bar in Long Beach.

Thanks to Skipper for checking back -- and for posting that great picture.
I was surprised tonight to see how little has been added to You Tube in the past week. I will only bring the best videos to the Montrose Peace Vigil message board, those with decent sound close to the stage. This one has two phenomenal pairings: Ray Davies and Bill Shanley in Scranton, Pa. playing "Two Sisters" from "Something Else by the Kinks" in 1967 and "The Hard Way" from "Schoolboys in Disgrace" in 1975. Ray's intro to the first is revealing. Then Bill shows he's an acoustic guitar god reproducing Dave Davies' electric riff.
Ray's whipped out some astounding selections from his storehouse of never-performed and little-heard masterpieces on each of the past three tours, like "A Long Way from Home." But I freaked when I found a 28-second clip of "This Is Where I Belong" in Hartford last week, a song I've adored my whole life as a Kinks fan, not just because it always reminds me of Tujunga. Will he do it at the Canyon Club?
Ray, Bill and the 88 play their 14th gig of this 20-city tour in Dallas on St. Patrick's Day.

Being technically challenged, as I am, you'll just have to wait a bit longer for a real treat of a photo...that's all I'm going to say. Oh yeah it belongs right here!
