Will he do it at the Canyon Club? . After scanning some of the recent reviews of the current tour here are some possibilities: “Where have All the Good Times Gone” “Victoria” “20th Century Man” “I’m Not Like Everybody Else” “Well-Respected Man” “Too Much On My Mind” “Nothin' in the World Can Stop Me Worryin' 'Bout That Girl” “This Is Where I Belong,” “I Need You” “See My Friends” “Autumn Almanac” “Dedicated Follower of Fashion” “In a Moment” “Till The End Of The Day” “The Tourist” “You Really Got Me”

That's a magnificent compilation job -- thank you, Skipper Jeff!
For those who might be familiar with just the Kinks songs on his list, "The Tourist" and "In a Moment" come from Ray Davies' two solo albums. I hope we get "After the Fall" as well.
"Autumn Almanac" was the big surprise last November, and most of the audience sang along, every word.
From memory, I think two of the songs on Skipper's list were not played at the Orpheum or at either gig at the Wiltern in the past four years -- "This Is Where I Belong," of course, and "Too Much on My Mind." Anni says he did the latter at the Wiltern, and she might be right. Or she might be thinking of Dave Davies' version from the 1990's that we've been hearing a lot lately.
Anyway, I plan to post my regular, compulsive roundup here in the wee hours Sunday after digging out my old setlists and rooting around the Internets for news and clips. I'm excited about next Thursday, the first real chance in my life to see Ray in a club instead of a theater, ballroom, arena, stadium or gymnasium.

I'm guessing that the wonderful photo Skipper posted was taken circa 1972, going by Ray's hair. I remember seeing him drinking nothing but Heinekens onstage with the Kinks. Performing solo in the last decade, he didn't pop one open until the encore. Sadly, I won't be able to drink much myself on Thursday! Back in the 1970's, I'd stand in line for tickets for hours, and again if the venue was general admission. Now I troll the Internet reading reviews and watching concert videos as the tour nears. The Ventura County Star is promoting the Canyon Club gig with this loving and comprehensive article featuring some great quotes from Ray on the road: www.vcstar.com/news/2010/mar/18/working-the-kinks-in-ray-davies-is-on-a-solo-but/

I had only heard about that documentary until you were kind enough to post those links, Skipper, but now I'm really interested in seeing it -- especially Mick Avory, Pete Quaife and Shel Talmey after all these years. The dude seems obsessed, which means something coming from me, but he's rather charming and sane in his fundraising video. Most of the audience at Ray Davies' shows in Los Angeles are people like us, ages 50 to 65 -- often accompanied by their grown children. I don't think I ever met a 40-year-old Kinks fan. So I'm curious about Edgers: Was "Come Dancing" at age 13 his introduction to their music? (It was "Lola" for me when I was 12.) He's only old enough to have seen the 1980's arena band perform, long after Mick quit playing drums. He missed a lot, I understand. But I don't want the Kinks to "Do It Again" unless Ray, Dave and Mick at least really want to record an album together, not just perform for profit and posterity like the five original members of Mott the Hoople did in London last October. (Although I have bootlegs of three of the shows and they are magic.) I'm ecstatic about seeing Ray Davies in Agoura Hills tonight. Still no update on Dave Davies' website this morning about when he'll redeem those Feb. 5 tickets that Skipper, Anni and I hold.

"Do It Again", I would be happy with any reincarnation of the Kinks as long as the brothers are on stage or in the studio together. I am also pretty satisfied that both brothers have continued to make music although separately. Although Ray has always been the primary creative force, Dave has always contributed the unique sound and style of playing that is the Kinks. Over the years I have learned that they were together but separate and individuals. Even when I listen to both of their current projects ( Like Fractured Mindz and Working Man's Cafe ) separately I hear the Kinks. Not sure this makes sense to any one else, but it does to me. Thank God they are both still alive. God Bless the Kinks! The first time I heard a Kinks song was not performed by the Kinks, but by Herman's Hermit's . It was "Dandy" when I was about 9 years old. I was living in Redding, CA (only a hand full of stations in that town in 1965) and my Grandmother had given me a AM transistor radio with a ear plug. I am also a fan of Ian Hunter and Mott the Hoople! I wasn't aware they had reunited. I saw Mott the Hoople only once open for Queen but I did see Ian Hunter a few times. Twice at FM Station and once at the Coach house in the 80's. I still have Mick Ronson's autograph penciled on a match book. "Ariel Bender" has to be one of the best stage names in Rock N Roll next to "Buck Dharma"! Of course you know Mott did "The Golden Age of Rock N Roll" , BOC did "The Golden Age of Leather". I know both bands shared the stage more than once in the early 70's. See you and Anni tonight Brian! ;D
