Grab your popcorn and find a cozy spot in your home on Friday, January 14th as the Topanga Peace Alliance hosts another virtual Friday Film Night featuring the documentary "Can You Hear Us Now?" This is an extremely well researched and produced film presenting political inequity. While the film focuses on Wisconsin, there are similar irregularities going on nationwide. The depiction of political gerrymandering through the lens of a grassroots movement is powerful and both beautiful and heartbreaking to watch. This is an important piece regardless of your political affiliation.
Featuring small-town activism; nail-biting elections; and a last-minute power grab. Filmed in Wisconsin, where extreme partisanship has become the norm, voters are finding their lives increasingly irrelevant to state lawmakers. Through the stories of four determined women, Can You Hear Us Now? unravels the ways years of one-party control have reshaped democracy in a state in the crosshairs of American politics.
We will open the Zoom event at around 7:15. Before the film, we will have announcements regarding upcoming events and actions for peace and social justice. We will enable video so that we can optionally see each other if you choose to enable your camera.
After the film we will have a discussion with local speakers (to be announced shortly).
