The country/farm scenes of this movie are said to be Burbank. You can sometimes see the hills behind the area that now has movie studios. The scene at 8:32 is very close to where Alameda not meets California near NBC.
Shots of the town featuring the church exterior is actually buildings at his studio that have been redressed. (That same church appears in the background of another movie that depicted downtown L.A. Sometimes it was more expedient to re-create downtown than go there and manage traffic, etc.)

Thanks for posting that, Oss Rae! I wouldn't have recognized the location in Burbank if you hadn't pointed it out. What a beautiful print. I can't recall ever seeing "Sunnyside." Coming after his brilliant "Soldier Arms," this two-reeler feels strained. You know you're in for a bumpy ride when two consecutive title cards contain the words "etc., etc., etc." This article on the official Charlie Chaplin website is illuminating: www.charliechaplin.com/en/films/15-Sunnyside/articles/280-Filming-Sunnyside
