Get ready for an eye-opening experience this Friday with the Topanga Peace Alliance as we dive into "What is Happening in Israel and Palestine?” This special program will take you on a journey to uncover the root causes of the recent surge of violence from both sides and explore the shifting politics of Israelis and Palestinians.
Our program will feature dynamic content including videos, news clips, on-camera interviews, live discussions, and actionable steps that we can take during and after the presentation. We're thrilled to have Rick Chertoff, an expert in the Israel-Palestine Conflict, to co-host this program. Rick brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, having taught a course in the Israel-Palestine Conflict at UCLA Labor Studies Center. Rick was an Executive Director of Jewish Labor Committee, Southwest Region (a Jewish Federation Zionist group), and a founding member and former co-chair of L.A. Jews for Peace (a non-Zionist group) and is currently with the Justice for Palestine - L.A. Campaign, promoting Palestinian equal rights and an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine (an anti-Zionist group).
Joining us for interviews we hope to have a Palestinian-American currently residing in the US and an Israeli-American currently residing in the West Bank. With their unique perspectives, we will gain a deeper understanding of the conflict and explore potential solutions.
As background, in December Israelis elected the most far right governing body that they have ever had. Over the past two months, violence has escalated from both sides of the conflict. Just this last weekend a Palestinian was shot and killed and at least 390 Palestinians were injured as Jewish settlers, backed by the Israeli army, burned dozens of houses and scores of cars in the occupied West Bank in attacks that were called to revenge the killing of two Israelis in an illegal West Bank settlement by a Palestinian man.
As we delve into this topic, we'll examine Israel's move to the right and the escalating violence. We'll explore possible pathways towards a peaceful resolution that benefits both communities, and what is stopping them. So, mark your calendars for Friday at 7:15 pm and join us on Zoom. Don't forget to turn on your camera and connect with other like-minded activists who are passionate about social justice and peace. Zoom doors open at 7:15, and the main event starts at 7:30. At 7:15 we will host announcements of upcoming events and actions that you can take to make a difference.
Don't miss this chance to become updated on this topic and be a part of the change!
