From Jay's volunteer list - see below if you'd like to join.
Our next Rockhaven work party has been scheduled as follows:
Saturday, July 24, 2010
2 to 4 PM
Rockhaven Sanitarium
2713 Honolulu Ave., Glendale
As is usual at our work parties, we will do light clean-up and possibly some minor work to reduce the likelihood of water damage. Please bring hand tools you might need need and a broom and dustpan, if possible.
If needed, we will continue with our "Clean the Rain Gutters" effort. Those who would like to participate should bring gardening gloves and a trowel; ladders will be supplied.
Also, you are reminded that Layla Bettar, the City of Glendale's project manager for the Rockhaven Sanitarium restoration, will be at the Historical Society meeting next Monday, July 19, to give us a brief update on the status of Rockhaven.
Hope to see you on the 24th,
Jay Holladay

I know this group is interested in helping shape how the restoration evolves and being part of the maintenance crew gets you inside to look around. Jay is a retired JPLer who lives on the edge of Glendale - his backyard abuts Tujunga.
The meeting he mentions is the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley, Monday, July 19 starting at 7 pm at the Center for Spiritual Living at Dunsmore and Santa Carlotta in La Crescenta.
The main program is by Don Urquidez, descendant of Don Jose Maria Verdugo, on the Spanish Soldiers of the mission era so I can understand if coming to suggest a women's peace garden might seem weird. His group does reenactments of establishing the California missions - not my favorite history!
I just wanted to give everyone the opportunity to hear what's going on.
